"A Formal Welcome"
continued from
"Taking a Look"

Location: USS BOSPHORUS
Stardate: 2.70514.1815
Scene: Cockpit

"PATRIOT, this is Commander Kenta requesting permission to dock." Ben
didn't bother to try and keep the smile out of his voice. The detour
to SB271 had been uneventful, and the trip back crowded. He was sure
everyone on the PATRIOT's new runabout would be glad to be off it.

"Permission granted, Commander." Ben wasn't surprised to find
Lieutenant Cal's voice answering him despite the shoreleave. She
struck him as the type who had little time for frivolity, and with no
family on EARTH or the starbase, she had no activity she preferred to
her job. "The Captain has requested that you contact her as soon as
you're aboard."

Ben sighed. "Acknowledged." All he really wanted was to take a
shower, and visit his family, but he had a feeling Helice had other plans.

Location: Starbase 1
Scene: Migelo's

"Ben, over hear!" Helice called when she noticed her EXO enter the
restaurant. "Have a seat."

"This is the place you choose for a meeting?" Ben asked looking
around skeptically. The color scheme was tacky, and the walls were
covered with signs and posters.

"Oh its not that bad." Helice chuckled. "Besides it's the only place
on the entire station you can get real food. The last thing I want
when I'm on leave is more replicated food."

"Of course." Ben said, taking his seat. He had never understood
people who thought "real" food was any better than its replicated
counterpart. In his experience it was, if anything, worse, because
real cooks didn't always get it right. A replicator was incapable of
accidentally overcooking your steak, or burning your toast. It didn't
produce souffle that wasn't done in the middle, or noodles that were
stuck to the bottom of the pot. Every molecule of every dish was
cooked perfectly to the exact specifications of the recipe, and no
chef in the galaxy could match that.

"I had no idea you were so particular about restaurant decor." she
said with a mocking tone and a smile.

Ben rolled his eyes. "What is it you wanted to see me about?" He
asked, wondering if there was anyone in the galaxy who thought hand
made chairs were more comfortable than replicated ones. Probably, he decided.

"Hold on, the waitress is here." Helice said, quickly turning away from him.

"Can I take your order?" She asked, politely, if dispassionate.

"Yes," Helice replied sounding eager. "I'll have the Tarezian Stew.
It sounds delicious."

"Alright." The waitress replied, taking notes on her PADD. "What about you?"

"No thanks, I'm not hungry." That wasn't true, but he intended to
have dinner with Tellah and Arthur once this meeting was over, and
didn't want to spoil his appetite. The waitress went off to place
Helices order, and Ben continued. "Now, what is it you wanted to see me about?"

"A party."

"A party?" Ben repeated the word with considerably less enthusiasm
that she'd used, causing Helice to laugh.

"Yes, a party." She laughed again, causing her nose to scrunch in a
way that made her look especially young. "We've added a few new
senior staff members, and some other key staff recently, I'd like to
throw an official welcome party tomorrow night in the HRC. I'd like
you to make the necessary arrangements."

"Very well." Welcome parties in the HRC had once been a tradition on
the PATRIOT, but that practice was now inconsistent at best. "I'll
take care of it right away." Ben rose from his chair, eager to get
started, and eager to finish.

"Alright I won't keep you any longer." Helice rolled her eyes and
smiled. "Oh and one more thing, she added just as Ben turned away.

"Yes?"

"There's a new cadet onboard who'll be working in engineering. Make
sure she's invite as well, I'd like to meet her.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NRPG: I was going to write a scene for the party too, but I find
myself too tired, so I'll let someone else continue. Alix has finally
graduated, and is celebrating by taking a short trip. When she gets
back (early next week I believe) she'll be posting a new mission
opener. Until then feel free to have your character mingle at the
party, and meet the rest of the crew, and as always, you can post
whatever else you'd like your character to be doing for shoreleave.
