Location: USS PATRIOT

Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0602.1913

Scene: Marine Deck

"That's good work Private," Daniel said, inspecting the target that had been
up in the firing range and walking back to the other marine, nodding his
head in approval. "You're starting to get the hang of the larger force this
model uses in discharging the energy beams. Try it again, but keep your
lower arm steady this time."

"Yes sir," the man answered, before taking another shot.

Daniel smiled. "I know it's difficult when you're not used to the model,"
he said. "But trust me; you'll want this one with you in the hot zone when
you're pinned down. It can cut through some serious opposition. So give it
one more shot."

"Major!" Daniel turned to spy his immediate superior walking in the
direction of the firing range and looking none too happy.

"I think we'll conclude today's lesson here," he said to the Private,
turning and walking towards the Colonel and wondering what the hell he'd
done this time.

"Something weird's just happened," Maverick said. As succinctly as
possible, the higher ranking marine filled the lower ranking one in on the
situation at hand. He didn't waste time on pointless details, but at the
same time made sure that Daniel was fully aware of the situation by the time
he finished talking.

"That sounds weird alright," Daniel said, whistling slightly. "What are our
orders?"

"At the moment, nothing," Maverick said. "I want you to send a team down to
the surface of the rogue planet. Our Captain beamed down there without
authorization and if there are any hostiles on there you can bet she'll be
in danger."

Daniel just stared at him in disbelief. "The Captain went down to the
surface if a completely unknown planet without any scans having been done
first?" he asked incredulously.

"Do you have a hearing problem now Major?" Maverick demanded.

Daniel flushed slightly. "No sir," he said. "I'll get A and B squads ready
for departure immediately."

"Very good Major," Bret said, nodding his head. "You yourself are going to
stay on the ship along with all the other marines. EARTH is being hit hard
by the change in gravity, and they might need us to help with mass
relocations of various people on the planet."

"Understood sir," Daniel said, before walking back towards the duty office.

"Goddamn naval officers," he muttered under his breath to himself as he
walked. "Always getting themselves into trouble."

He quickly checked on the locations of the leaders of A and B squads and was
pleasantly surprised to find that both of them were on marine deck. He
walked over to one of the duty rooms and found them both working inventory.

"You can put that job down for now men," Daniel said. "I need you and your
units to suit up and ship out as soon as possible."

Brian Dirak, the leader of A team and Jacob Crunk, the leader of B team both
stood and looked at the MXO for more information.

"Dirak," Daniel said. "You and your team are to meet up with the Captain
and act as an escort for her. Crunk, your team will be exploring the
planet's surface."

"Very good sir," Dirak answered, Crunk echoing the statement.

"Get your team together and get down there as soon as you can. And make
sure that nothing happens to the Captain while she's down there."

NRPG: My first offering for the mission. It's not very long, but my room's
a sauna at the moment and I can't concentrate much. In any case, it just
gets the ball rolling on a couple of things.
