"Riots and Repercussions"
Cont. from "More Uh-Oh"
-------------------------------------------
Location: Unknown planet
Stardate: 2.70619.735
Scene: Town Square (Tam)
Tam knew, absolutely beyond doubt, that she was in a deserted place on a deserted planet, and that there was a Starfleet team only a few meters away, looking at what was coming into her head. But she also knew that she was being pushed, practically trampled, by the people of this planet as they rushed up the stairs that she stood on, and she could feel the heat of their bodies only centimeters away. She wasn't even trying to open herself up to this, and she was getting blasted by the residuals of whatever had happened in this place.
And the noise! She cried out again, reaching involuntarily to cover her ears only to be blocked by the electronics. She had no way to block out the sounds of a riot occurring right next to her. The shouts were deafening, the ground shaking with the pressure of so many moving bodies, and there was an almost continuous scream rising above even that sound, from the people that were being pulled away from each other and the people caught underfoot.
The man on the platform was protesting, yelling at the encroaching crowd."No! You don't understand!"
A voice, the first that had spoken and now one that drew near the front of the crowd, shouted back. "We do understand! You're losing your mind and any sense of law! You need to be taken away!"
Alcron's fear was palpable as he replied. "No, I haven't! Those Who Came Before-" He was cut off, brutally, by a fist slamming into his stomach. A few determined people had clawed their way onto the platform and grabbed him from behind, the same man striking him again in the same place. Those who had seized him were forced to let go as he crumpled to his knees and vomited over the side of the platform, inciting more roars of rage from those below.
That first voice now forced his way to the front of the pack, and was revealed to be a tall male, with flashing green scales and long blue feathers trailing down his back. "You're pathetic," he snarled. "You're making all this up just to get attention."
Alcron, still on his hands and knees, wiped his mouth with his sleeve and looked up. Tam recognized the quick flash of defiance in his eyes as he gasped for breath. "I'm not- I've already activated my prototype." He spat onto the man's shoes. "See how well it works."
Tam heard the last words but didn't register them, instead screaming in agony at the feel of someone passing through her with a bared knife blade.

Scene: Town Square (Starfleet)
**It's like a bad movie,** Ginny thought, suppressing a shudder at the attack. Still, she watched, engrossed, as it progressed, with someone on the platform cracking the speaker- Alcron- over the head with something hard (it looked like a knife handle) and catching him as he passed out. Then the monitor went black just as Tam screamed, one that sent a chill up her spine, and collapsed.

Location: USS PATRIOT
Scene: Sickbay
Time Index: Fifteen minutes later
Helice waited in sickbay as Tam was seen to. She glanced from the one bed, where the medics were working her over, to the other, where Daniel lay still, with only too-regular breathing his only motion. This was taking a lot out of her crew, one way and another, and she wanted to figure out why. Right now they were checking the ESP ability of the other crewmembers in case, but she wanted this solved before anyone else ended up in sickbay. It helped that they'd managed to temporarily break up the riot occurring on the ship, but she knew the peace was momentary.
After only a minute or two more, Tessa Dugan approached, looking tired. "We think we've sorted it out," she informed the captain. "It's actually similar to what a lot of Bajorans- and other humanoids, for that matter- experience after a reported encounter with Bajoran 'Prophet' orbs. She was really just overloaded with the sensations and her brain shut down to protect itself. She'll be fine soon, we just need to keep an eye on her."
"That's a relief." Helice ignored the sensation that Tarnak was sitting in the back of her brain making a snarky observation about inadequate mental shields. "Do you have any idea how long before she wakes up?"
The other woman sighed. "A couple of hours, probably. And I have to recommend against having her do it again. Or having anybody do it, really. It's too dangerous for their mental health."
The captain considered the edict. "Can she do it again if she has to?"
"Yes. But I'm going on record as protesting that decision."
"I know, I don't want to do it either." Helice looked back again at the two crew lying motionless. "But we may have to if we want to save EARTH."

NRPG: And, of course, we all hear the ominous music. Tag!
I just want to warn everyone that I may not be able to keep up with the posts for the next week or so (I'm traveling a few states over for a wedding). I'll check in if I can, but I figured I'd let everyone know.
