"Putting Down the Riot"
continued from
"Riots and Repercussions"

Location: USS PATRIOT
Stardate: 2.70619.2215
Scene: Primary Security Center
Time Index: After Rahul's post, before Beth's.

"Status report, Lieutenant." Though Martin was one of Ben's best
friends, the EXO's tone made it clear that this meeting would be all business.

"Riots have broken out all over deck 15, Sir. We're trying to contain
them, but without pulling our teams away from the rest of the
civilians we simply don't have the manpower, and I don't want to risk
another group of essentialists stirring up the crowd while security is away."

"Are the inertial dampeners secure?" Ben asked, a slight hint of
alarm in his voice. Deck 15 was primarily for cargo, but that crucial
system was housed there as well. If the rioters shut it down, the
PATRIOT would be effectively paralyzed. Moving at any relevant speed
would be disastrous to anyone on the ship who wasn't tied down."

"I put three guards on it at first word of the attack." Soldat
replied quickly. "Their tactical position isn't ideal. It's possible
they could be overwhelmed by a concentrated attack, but the mob is
leaderless at the moment, so it's seems unlikely they'd be organized
enough to make the attempt."

Ben smiled inwardly with the knowledge that he'd trained his former
assistant well. "How many officers do we have on that deck."

"Nine total, if you count the two marines. I pulled people away from
the other teams where I could spare them., but we're stretched thin."

"What's your recommendation?" Ben already had a good idea what he was
going to do, but he thought it was important to let people do their
jobs, besides there was always the possibility Martin would say
something he hadn't thought of.

"We need to get that crowd under control before the riots spread to
other decks, and we can't do it with troops. The way I see it, it's
time for drastic measures."

Ben nodded. "Get your men off deck 15, and then you have
authorization to anesthetize the deck." he said without hesitating.
"Do it quickly, and tell your men to keep quit about it. If word
spreads to the rest of the civilians we're likely to have another
riot on our hands."

"Yes, Sir."

"Captain Clarkson is going to be out of commission for the
foreseeable future so you've got direct command of the marines left
on the ship until the Colonel has time to take command. I'm also
assigning the bulk of our engineers, and whatever other personnel I
can find, to security until further notice. They'll start reporting
within the hour. Use them as you see fit, but I don't want a repeat
of this incident, understood?"

"Yes, Sir." Martin replied smartly. "What do you want me to do with
the essentialist's we've arrested?"

Ben sneered involuntarily. Part of him wanted to simply send them
back to EARTH, but his sense of law wouldn't allow it. "Keep them in
isolation for now. I'll find out what Command wants us to do with them."

NRPG: There was going to be a lot more, but I'm too tired right now.
I'll try and post the rest in a few days.
