=========== "Interrogation" Con't from Erik's "Putting Down the Riot" =========== Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0702.0436 Scene: Brig Lieutenant Soldat was seated in the brig, staring across at the sell which incorporated all three of the essentialists that had been responsible for the riots that had happened in cargo bay 1. While he would have preferred that they kept them in separate cells, currently space restrictions and the fact that they expected other events to land more people here dictated that he was forced to use just the one cell for all three men. While not torturously uncomfortably for them, it was nevertheless a snug fit. "Why did you pick this moment to start trouble?" Soldat asked finally. While no stranger to the pressures of command (having been filling in as the Chief of Security ever since the untimely death of Andy Patricks), Soldat nevertheless would have preferred that Major Clarkson was still around to help him co-ordinate things. The three essentialists looked at him, but none of them refused to say anything. Soldat had the notion that if any of them were going to talk, it would be the leader who had been whipping up the mob earlier on in the cargo bay. "I mean really," Soldat said, drawing a chair close to the force field and then sitting down in it. "The Federation has been based around a freedom of speech principle, but when you yell fire in a crowded theatre, it's not free speech." The lead essentialist smiled slightly. "You Starfleet types are fond of using that analogy," he said. "But I did not yell fire in a crowded theatre." "No," Soldat answered. "You yelled death in a crowded cargo bay before stabbing a field grade officer in the back." "It was in self defence," the essentialist answered. "He was going to take us back to the brig and shoot us." Soldat raised an eyebrow, before shaking his head. "It was obvious you didn't know the Major that well," he said. "On a list of unlikely actions for him, shooting someone *with cause* is high on that list and shooting someone *without cause* is even higher. He's about as close as a marine could come to being a pacifist." "Yes, I'm supposed to believe that when he was walking around with two holstered marine phaser pistols?" the essentialist asked. "Yes," Soldat answered. "Because I said as close as a marine could get. But we seem to have gone off topic here. If you don't want to tell me why you started trouble, then at least tell me whether or not there are any other essentialists left on this vessel." "I don't know," the essentialist answered. Soldat stared at him for a very long time. He'd detected no hesitation on the man's part when he'd answered the question and therefore he had no reason to believe the man was lying, but he didn't particularly trust essentialists and something was nagging at him as a worry. "Very well," Soldat said, getting up and putting the chair back where he'd gotten it from. "I'll be back later; maybe you'll feel like talking then." ========== NRPG: Woah, posting just kinda died there. What's going on folks? There's the subplot on the surface as well as the one up on the PATRIOT, so there should be plenty for people to write about. If anyone's having trouble coming up with ideas, toss me a line and I'll give you some =) ========== Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Major Daniel Clarkson, MD MXO USS PATRIOT From HyperNews_at_youth.net
