"Killing Time"
(Cont. from "Stuff on Ship")
----------------------------------------
Location: USS PATRIOT
Stardate: 2.70808.1259
Scene: Tam's quarters
When Tam woke up, it was to a pounding headache and dead silence in her quarters. Her "roommates" had already been shifted back to Earth, so she was thankfully alone. She didn't need anyone asking her why she was moving around at-- she checked the chronometer-- 0300 when she wouldn't be in her office for hours. And there was no hope of sleeping again, at least not yet. Too many echoes still in her mind.
The worst part wasn't even the memories of what she had seen while she was on the planet. Those were more easily dealt with than what she had seen when she had regained consciousness in sickbay. The sight of Clarkson lying so still on the bed had given her shivers, even more so when she found out what happened. He had been the first person to welcome her aboard, and now he was near death.
She had an idea that the minute she walked into her office she was going to have visitors.
In the meantime, though, she was under orders to get rest from sickbay, and if she wasn't sleeping she could at least not do work. Tam looked at the canvas sitting on the easel in the corner and considered it, but she had the idea that the ugly feelings and images in her mind would come out that way, and she didn't want to explore them now. Instead, she ordered a cup of herbal tea from the replicator and sipped at it.
It still wasn't doing the trick, though. She sighed, set down the mug, and headed over the small table set up in the corner. Lighting the candles, she settled down in front of the replicate Orb of Remembrance.

Scene: Sickbay
Timestamp: Five hours later
Nancy Williamson hesitated at the thought of leaving sickbay. She had been there overnight, and Marty was coming in shortly to stay with Daniel while she slept and ate, but she didn't want to leave her son alone. The decision was taken out of her hands when Dr. Dugan appeared next to her. "Ms. Williamson? Go back to your quarters. He'll be fine for a while, and you need a break, you've been here all night."
"But-"
"Go." This time the doctor's tones, gentle as they were, had an undeniable firmness to them; she would brook no arguments with her authority. Nancy held up her hands in defeat and turned to go, only half-listening when Dugan added, "You might want to stop and see Ensign Tam sometime today. She can probably help."
Nancy slipped through the doors and headed for the turbolift. **A quick stop in the mess hall,** she promised herself, **and a nap, and then I'll go back.** She had no idea why the ensign mentioned would help her with anything. She'd heard somebody call a younger woman by that name, but she had been corralling refugees by the transporters. She apparently wasn't a medical doctor, so how could she help? Not to mention that Nancy still hadn't made a decision on the surgery. She wanted Daniel's wife's opinion as well, so she had been delaying as long as possible.
She just hoped that her son was okay.

NRPG: Just a little filler, really, to let you all know that I was still alive. I was going to have Catherine show up at the end, but that's not my authority, so...
