"Naturally, you are trying to find the Iconian Gateway," the leader replied.
"And if that is the case, then I might have some news for you. News that
will allow you to accomplish your mission and leave us in peace."

"This better be good." Tanith muttered under her breath to the Bajoran
counselor who'd had the unfortunate luck to stand next to her. "I can
explain everything never is as simple as it sounds."

She wasn't very pleased by the situation. Daniel, she'd noticed, was overly
impulsive for her tastes, seeming to have the typical masculine inclination
to act when being passive would probably be the best option. Why on earth in
the presence of so many would you go for your phaser when the best possible
outcome you could hope for was something akin to a "Mexican standoff"?

Tanith hated having weaponry pointed at her with a passion. She always felt
gawky and unprepared for physical altercations planet side, her gangly body
lacking a certain amount of grace that she admired in other fighters. In
space she was at ease, graceful, deadly, elegant, on the ground she got the
job done with all the delicacy of a rhino in a china shop.

"What news?" Ben said neutrally.

"You can stop now, it's already in safe hands." The man put his hands out in
a sweeping gesture. "I cannot say much without violating our Prime
Directive, but the Iconian technology is already secured by us, to prevent
the abuse of the technology by people of this time period."

"People of this time period?" Ben raised his eyebrow. "So you're from the
future? Or from a time travelling race?"

"Something like that. We are part of the successors to the Federation, and
it was decided by our council that this time period was far too volatile to
allow access to this technology, so we came to secure it before it was
discovered."

"So why tell us this?" Ben frowned.

"Because, you're the ones who discovered it. We found this place due to some
old logs of yours that were being gone over by some of our archivists. We
were puzzled because it seemed as though no action had been taken on your
discovery, when all our temporal simulations indicated that it wouldn't have
happened."

"So you came to mess with the timeline?"

"Not exactly. We came because the only way we could account for it was if
we'd gone back in time and did this intervention so you didn't fully
disclose the technology you found here."

"This must be what going crazy feels like. I'd say drugs, but drugs would
make more sense!" Tanith said far louder than she intended, and blushed as
eyes turned at her. "Sorry sir."

NRPG: Sorry for long time no post, been busy with grad student stuff. Hope
this is helpful, though short! Hope to get back into the swing of things
better!
