The twins, now two years old were still playing with their birthday
presents, John was sleeping the soft gentle snore could just be heard
as an undercurrent to the two toddlers playing.

The only Gorman child not currently going about her normal day to day
business was El'hron, at five the small half Klingon was old beyond
her years, a few obvious hints were making her nervous, firstly the
children weren't playing in their livingroom, in fact contrary to
their mums usual orders all four of the children were in the main
bedroom.

Secondly the big chest that their mum usually kept locked and behind
a forcefield was open, all manner of shiny things could be seen
glinting in the harsh standard Starfleet lighting.

Finally, and this was maybe the most obvious their mum wasn't
smiling anymore, a harsh glint was in her eye as she put together
a rifle. Of course El'hron didn't know what the weapon was, or
why her mum looked so stern and kept hushing the children, still
the intent was their and the small girl bit her lip to keep from
asking the questions she wanted to ask.

Katlina Gorman for her part was alternating between fear and anger.
**Should never have had children** She bit silently in her head
saying to herself words she'd never say to her children.

She heard the door swooshing open, her hand dropped to a spare
weapon while she double checked the weapon, knowing it wasn't
Jeff one arm swept up the young girl who was deposited silently
behind the bed.

Kat braced herself standing to one side of the door listening to
the sounds for anything remotely resembling her nightmares. The
door swished open and Geoffrey Andrews stepped forwards, knowing
his daughter his hands were already in the air.

"There's fighting on the promenade." The older man declared once
his foster daughter had nodded and lowered her weapons.

  "We're at war." Kat answered.

Geoff looked around the room and sighed, "I can watch the kids
for you." He offered quietly.

The ex Commanding Officer of the GATEWAY OUTPOST shook her head.
"No, my time for being able to help them ended a long time ago."
She looked over her shoulder, her eyes met El'hrons and she
managed a weak smile at her eldest child. "I'm here for them
and only them now."

"And Jeff?" Geoffrey asked her quietly knowing the haunted
look in his daughters eyes.

"He'll come home." She declared firmly.

Not all of their patients were children and not all of them were glad
to see the faces and uniforms of Starfleet officers back on GATEWAY.

A particularly irritable Nausican with a dagger sticking out of his
shoulder managed a lucky right hook and sent Jeff Gorman flying
across the room. A Marine standing in the doorway simply lifted
his weapon and fired, causing the injured Nausican to collapse back
on the biobed in a pathetic heap.

Daisy yelled, "Hey! No shooting my patients!!"

The Marine gave her an innocent look "What?! It was on stun."

She rolled her eyes and groaned. "Gee....that's very 'Mav' of you."

He flashed her a boyish grin. "Thank you, Ma'am....I take that
as a compliment."

Ignoring the young man's swagger, Daisy took over at the Nausican's
bedside while asking over her shoulder.

"You ok, Dr. Gorman?"

"Right as rain, Dr. Byrne..." He grinned weakly, rubbing his
jaw.

Daisy corrected him. "It's Dr. Davidson..."

Jeff blinked. "What?" Then, he staggered slightly as
he got up and Daisy narrowed her eyes, studying Jeff's
body language.

"Nevermind" Daisy shrugged. "How many fingers am I
  holding up?"

She held up two fingers and Jeff stared at her, thoughtfully.
Then, he replied with all sincerity....

"Three. See? I'm fine."

"Nurse!!!" Daisy bellowed. "Take Dr. Gorman to a bed and
do a scan."

"Dammit, Daisy...." Jeff started to protest. "I'm fine..."

The Marine perked up and offered with a grin, "Want me to
shoot him?"

Jeff took a couple more steps forward, laughing awkwardly...
"No, really....I'm...."

Suddenly, the room began to spin. He dropped to his
knees and got sick all over the floor. The nurse
attended to him while Daisy tapped her comm badge.

"This is Dr. Daisy Byrne Davidson from the USS PATRIOT
hailing the Chief Medical officer of the USS MERCY."

A familiar voice replied. [[ "Daisy?" ]]

She blinked, surprised. "Kate?"

[[ "Yeah, it's me." ]]

Daisy instantly recognized the voice of her former crewmate,
Kate MacNeil.

"Excellent job on those medical supply packets - but
now we need additional people to work triage....can you
come?"

[[ "I'll have a team ready and join you ASAP." ]] Kate
replied without hesitation.

"Thank you." Daisy sighed, fatigue coming through in
her voice. Then, she went back to work on her still-stunned
  Nausican patient.

I apologize for this being short - but some health issues came up with my daughter and
I wanted to make sure I got Kate MacNeil from the USS MERCY to the Station and take care of the Kat Gorman Scene that Joy asked either Rahul or myself to post.

Rahul - I hope you don't mind my smacking Jeff around. *Grin* I figured an concussion is
easily treatable and good reason for him to go back and see his wife and kids.

I promise - my next post will be much better and have more meat to it. LOL

  Thanks for your patience!

  Rannie - Tag!

Naomi - your post was wonderful and left me hungry for more!! :)

Ken - *Waves* You ok? *Thinking of you*
