=========== “Prep Work” Con’t from Sarah’s <GATEWAY> “But I Always Thought That I’d See You Again” =========== Location: GS-2 Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 1229.1308 Scene: Promenade “This is not going to work,” Morris muttered as he and Daniel walked along the parts of the promenade that had yet to be evacuated. “What’s not going to work?” Daniel asked absently, reading a PADD that had just been brought to him by a runner. He clucked to himself in annoyance, changing the subject. “The evacuation isn’t going fast enough.” “Do we have anymore personnel left that we can assign to it?” Morris asked. Daniel shook his head. “Manpower isn’t the problem,” he said. “It’s just the evacuation of such a large mass of people is slowing things down big time. I’m not sure what we can do about that with the resources that we have. People are already moving as fast as they can and we’ve got the transporters working at peak efficiency. If we’re lucky, the Dominion will hold off their attack long enough that everyone we’re going to evacuate gets a chance to get off the station.” “And if we’re not lucky?” Morris asked. Daniel shrugged. “Then we’ll find out how many marines remember their training about fighting in front of civilians.” There was a moment of silence as the two kept walking, before Daniel spoke again. “What’s not going to work?” he asked, remembering Morris’ earlier comment. “This plan of arming civilians with phasers and planting them near their stores,” Morris said. “These guys aren’t even militia; they’re worse than militia.” “They all have at least some sort of basic training with a phaser,” Daniel pointed out. “We’re not letting anyone into the battle zone that doesn’t. Besides, Mav’s point in issuing that order was to get the ones that want to stay and fight out of our hair as soon as possible. We need to finish this quickly and get back to helping set up the defensive areas on the station.” “Yeah,” Morris agreed. As they walked by one of the shops, Morris noticed a marine handing a phaser to one of the civilians, who immediately dropped it before sheepishly bending down to pick it up. “I guess it could be worse,” Morris muttered under his breath, before following Clarkson into the next section. ========== Time Index: Simultaneously Scene: Sickbay Back at work, Jeff had been helping to coordinate the controlled chaos of triage that was going on in the sickbay he currently commanded. All over the place there were doctors from not only GATEWAY, but also from all of the other ships. Coordinating so many people that had not worked together before was difficult, but with the help of his assistant and a number of experienced triage personnel, no major obstructions had hindered the triage as of yet. “One more over here!” a voice hollered, causing Jeff to turn around and walk over to help with the newest patient. Biobeds had long since been filled up and now the beds were used for emergency surgery, with people recovering and being treated for minor to intermediate injuries being placed on temporary mats that had been scattered around the sickbay and surrounding areas. After quickly asking the patient a few questions and doing a scan with his tricorder, Jeff determined that his injuries weren’t severe enough to warrant surgery. “Find an empty mat and help him down,” he ordered the Starfleet recruit that had come in with the patient. “Then alert the circulating nurse for that area and she will assign a doctor as soon as possible.” “Aye sir,” the man replied, before carrying out the Doctor’s orders. =========== NRPG: Well, this post ended up a lot shorter than I was hoping. I initially intended to write a post last Saturday once I’d had a couple of days to unwind after exams, but it’s been a very strange week. In any case, I should be back to my normal rate now. =========== Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing… Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Gorman, MD Chief Medical Officer GS-2 And… Major Daniel Clarkson, MD Marine Executive Officer USS PATRIOT No virus found in this outgoing message.
