News was floating around that a Dominion fleet would
be attacking the station soon and everyone had to be
prepared. Evacuations of civilian women and children
were taking place at the moment. Kathryn MacNeil was
getting ready to return to the MERCY to make the
necessary preparations with the medical staff there
for the upcoming battle. Kate ruefully expected the
casualties in the next attack were going to be high
like the first battle and that the medical personnel
from the station and fleet would have a lot on their
hands with the injured. The Scottish doctor felt
melancholy over not spending Christmas with her family
back in Scotland as she had planned, prior to coming
to the station. Such was the life of a Starfleet
officer, where they could be called anywhere and
anytime. That would neither be the first time for
Kathryn nor the last.
After the former PROPHECY crew’s return from the ISC
dimension, the half-Nuimon was called away to return
to Starfleet Medical headquarters at short notice.
MacNeil had never said goodbye to Aerdan and felt
remorse over it. The hybrid pondered for many times as
to how she or even he would react if they ever crossed
paths again. Kate had conjured up different scenarios,
ranging from jumping into his arms to just running
away for fear of facing him again. At the moment, the
MERCY’s CMO was not really sure how to explain the
reason behind leaving E4 without talking to the
Andorian physician. Her mind began slowly drifting
down memory lane.

"Aerdan... what's on your mind?" Kate turned, placing
a few PADDs on her desk.
"Actually I was wondering what was on yours?" He
started softly.
Kate released a soft sigh and sat down into her desk
chair. "It's been a long day... and I was just
thinking, with everything we have dealt with
concerning Dr. Foster, is it good to be making fun of
him behind his back?"
Aerdan sat himself, facing her. "At least they can
keep light spirits about it. From what I can tell
when Foster first arrived he literally drove many of
the technicians and nurses away." He paused a second,
"not that I condone making fun of our aCMO, but better
lighthearted than malicious."
Kate stretched her neck looking upwards before
speaking, as if the thoughts were settling downwards
into her head. "The worst thing is I really needed to
laugh about it."
"I know." his voice was calm and careful. "The truth
is that as time has gone on the staff actually... dare
I say it? They care about Cade Foster, in an odd
antagonistic way. Maybe he even appreciates it, I
don't know. I would think having pink pom pons stuck
to your door is better than people acting as if you
didn't exist."
"I... I don't know. I feel so wound up dealing with
him." She said slowly.
Aerdan stood, taking in a long breath. "want some
advice and some stress therapy?"
Kate watched him, curious and gave a slight chuckle.
"All right, what did you have in mind?"
He looked to the replicator and replied evenly
"hairbrush" before looking towards Kate, grasping the
brush as it materialized. "For a long time Ishe had
nightmares, a growing thing, and the only way I could
get her to bed was to brush and braid her hair."
Kate pondered this for a second and then nodded an
assent, turning around. Aerdan sat, slowly unwinding
her hair and brushing it. "When it comes down to it,
Cade can make all the excuses he likes, the fact is he
knows that he put himself in this position. It's not
like anyone is out to 'get' him, even though he'll
claim that. But because he doesn't want to admit
fault he'll be a beast to deal with for... who knows
how long."
"I just wish we could get some mutual respect going."
Kate replied, relaxing as Aerdan started to divide her
hair into sections.
"Cade Foster had to be young and brilliant at one
point too. I think it'll simply be time that will
force his respect." the Andorian reasoned.
Kate's voice was lighter when she spoke next. "Ah, but
aren't we all young and brilliant at one point?"
"No, most of us are just young." He replied.
Kate waved a hand in the air. "Aerdan... I failed to
get into the academy on my first try. I joined a
civilian archaeological group and then entered as a
science major."
"And yet you picked up medicine deftly and in short
order. You rose to the ACT program and the head of
your own department in full merit shortly after wards.
If that isn't brilliance I don't know what
is."
Kate opened her mouth to argue and then decided
against it. Aerdan went on, "There's passion about
your field, and I think Cade sees it. And Cade...he;s
brilliant in a different way. Endlessly fascinated by
... puzzles. But his passion doesn't lie with people,
and that's his failing. It takes time to reconcile
two such varying viewpoints."
Kate rubbed her temples lightly absorbing it all as
Aerdan finished weaving the last strand, hooking the
hair up into a small silver loop leaving a few strands
decorativily looped around the tail. "I…well, I guess
I never thought about it that way." She paused. "You
think he'll get over it?"
Aerdan waited until she turned around to face him
again, setting the hairbrush back into the replicator
to be recycled. "No. But I don't think he has a
choice either, so it will work out."
Kate nodded to that and turned the monitor screen,
looking at her reflection and the hair in the blank
screen. "That's... lovely. You're hired." She
murmured fingering the intricate braid. She looked up
at the Andorian. "So... If Cade and I are brilliant,
what about how you got into this job?"
Aerdan gave her a small closed smile. "Let's just say
if you're passionate, I'm... dutiful. It's a long
story."
"One you'll have to tell me sometime."

NRPG: Post titled ‘Difficulties of Doctors’ Lives’
written by Jamie and myself
For a second his antennae went straight upwards, a
soft whining tone coming to his ears. Ensign Baker
was starting to cough again.
It was like a bell ringing the two doctors to
attention. As Daisy started to try to get liquid down
Cade, Kate and Aerdan converged on the young girl. She
was tossing back and forth on her bed, rolling,
searching for some position where she could breathe.
Scanning the young science officer with a medical
tricorder, MacNeil announced. “Her respiratory system
is beginning to fail. She is suffering from pulmonary
embolism.” Pulmonary embolism was when a blockage of
the artery in the lungs by a blood clot or fat
occurred and its symptoms involved difficulty in
breathing, pain when breathing and circular
instability, which could all lead to death.
“I’m picking up massive amounts of internal bleeding
in the brain as well as the trachea,” Aerdan informed,
as he picked up an instrument from the side table and
began attempting to fix the problem.
Kathryn stifled from sighing as she watched her
patient continuing to convulse and struggling to
breathe. She looked with dismay at the beads of sweat
flowing down Baker’s forehead and the pain etched on
the young woman’s face, whenever she attempted to
breathe. Bruises slowly began forming all over the
patient’s upper body. Kate picked up the exoscalpel
and used the tiny instrument to make a tiny incision
on the on the chest, just by the rib cage.
After quickly managing to cut open part of the woman’s
chest, the doctor glanced quickly at a nearby nurse
and demanded. “Crewman Simpson, the anticoagulant
please?”
“Yes ma’am,” the crewman recruit Flora Jean Simpson
complied and handed the hypospray filled with the
anticoagulant to the CMO, who immediately began
administering it to get rid of the clots from the
artery in the lung.
Aerdan informed, worry forming on his brow. “I am
unable to stop the bleeding.”
“Keep trying,” Kate urged, becoming very determined
to save the geologist, a young and vibrant woman who
was always very cheerful in life. Currently she was
having a hard time getting rid of the clots, as more
and more began to form, making it harder for Mindy to
breathe. “Her lungs are collapsing,” the doctor
reported, still not ready to give up on the patient’s
life. Unfortunately all hers and Aerdan’s efforts had
been in vain, when Baker had stopped breathing. Jos
placed the instrument away and stepped back, watching
with concern at the Scot’s reaction.
Kate took a few more seconds, staring at the still
form of the science officer before looking up at
Aerdan. She informed, maintaining her composure. “Time
of death, 1415 hrs.” The doctor threw the hypospray to
the ground and walked away, letting nurse Simpson to
clean up. Aerdan followed the tall woman. The two
medical officers were not allowed even a moment to
reflect on Baker’s death, when nurse Kaikura called
out. “Dr. MacNeil, Dr. Jos, something’s wrong with Lt.
Sheyral.” Kate and Aerdan immediately rushed to the
older Andorian woman’s bedside.
The soft wheezing of her breath in and out of her
chest sounded rather like a violin badly in need of
repair. Kate closed her eyes slightly and placed a
hand on the older woman’s forehead. She was
blisteringly hot. She didn’t need to be Andorian to
realize that the climate of DAGORIN VI was doing as
much damage as the drug. “We need to move her.”
“Can we move her in her condition?” It was Kaikura who
asked, her brows knitting.
“I think we’re going to have to.” Kate replied in the
sort of tone that said she would carry the woman
herself if it increased the chances of saving her
life. “The shuttlecraft Peter brought will have the
proper atmospheric systems.” She leaned down, starting
to prepare her for moving.
Aerdan placed a blue hand over Kate’s, his movements
slow and steady. “Let me help. I know how to move
her.”
For a second Kate paused, forcing herself to take in a
breath, the air burning slightly as it filtered into
her lungs. “Thanks.” Both doctors started to wrap the
elder Andorian the team helping to carry her to the
shuttlecraft. As they laid her down, one of the
technicians programming the internal controls to
steadily decrease the temperature. Sheryal wheezed,
lurching forwards long streams of bile and saliva
draining from her mouth, flecked with blood. There
was nothing more to purge from their systems, and yet
the drug was still making them vomit.
Kate turned to Kaikura. “I need something to inhibit
her vomiting, the acid from her stomach is starting to
destroy her esophagus.” And as the nurse ran to obey,
Kate added, “I won’t have the same thing happen
twice…”
Aerdan watched her, bending down to listen, his
antennae nearly brushing Sheyral’s forehead. When he
stood back up he looked worried. “Her entire body is
moving far too fast. Heart rate, breathing,
everything is elevated.”
“Gold Dew is an upper.” Kate muttered, wishing for a
split second that she could get her hands on whoever
made the stuff. “From what I was reading it was
usually cut with Sodium Tricyclide in order to time
release the drug.”
Aerdan nodded, only half listening. He had placed
his hands gently on Sheryal’s neck, and was pressing
the tips on his ring fingers into a pressure point on
either side. Kate perked her head up. “What are you
doing?”
“Acupressure. I’m trying to buy us time.” He murmured
in reply. It was something his father would have
frowned upon as being a primitive placebo, but after
his experience with the Dy’Len, he was much more
willing to try it.
Kate took a breath and gave a nod, turning back to
Kaikura as she reappeared with a hypospray, which
contained the drug meant to keep the stomach acid at
bay, in her blue hand. The nurse handed the device to
the Scottish woman, who quickly administered it on the
patient’s neck. MacNeil stepped aside, watching with
anxiety to see if the hypospray had any effect. The
speed of the vomit began decreasing to the doctor’s
relief as she then turned to the aCMO, who was still
performing acupressure on Sheyral. “Is it working?”
Aerdan replied, calmly. “I’m hoping it would slow down
the heart rate, breathing…basically as I mentioned
earlier…buy us some time.” He held the tricorder in
his other hand and seemed slightly satisfied at the
results it produced. “Accupressure is having an
effect. Her heart rate is slowly returning back to
normal, her breathing as well.”
Kate sighed out of slight relief. “That’s good to
know.”
“But I am not sure whether this will be permanent,”
the Andorian added, his antennae bending slightly,
keeping his expression stoic.
The half-Nuimon CMO stated, feeling ready to deflate
but could not knowing there was lot of work left to
do. “Well, the vomiting has stopped. That’s a good
sign, I guess.”
“Indeed it is,” Aerdan nodded, before inquiring with
a quick glance at the science officer. “What next?”
MacNeil answered, glancing back and forth between
Sheyral and her assistant. “Since she looks to be
stable for now, we will check up on the other
patients. Kaikura will remain here to monitor Janis’
condition.”
“Sounds good to me,” Jos agreed as the two walked
away from the semi-conscious Andorian woman and were
about to step out of the shuttle, when Kaikura
suddenly called out. The CMO and aCMO turned around at
their heels and watched in horror as Janis began
convulsing. Kate and Aerdan rushed to the patient’s
side.
Kathryn inquired, her heart pounding against her
chest. “What’s wrong, now?” The Scottish woman and
Kaikura held the science officer, hoping to stop her
from shaking.
Aerdan reported, as he picked up a medical tricorder
and scanned the Andorian woman. “Her heart rate’s at
tachycardiac levels.”
“We need to slow it down to normal levels,” Kate
decided, having picked up an instrument that would
help reduce the heart rate with one hand, while still
holding onto Sheyral with the other.
“She’s going into cardiac arrest,” the Andorian aCMO
announced, as the readings on his tricorder began
running off the scale. “We need to stabilize her,
quickly,” the older doctor urged his superior. He
watched the Scot use the instrument on Sheyral’s chest
in the hopes of saving the woman’s life. Jos was aware
of the effect, Baker’s death had on Kate and knew the
taller doctor was very determined to not fail with
Janis, this time around. “Her diaphragm’s paralyzed,
most likely caused by all that vomiting,” the aCMO
reported, maintaining a stoic expression even though
he was becoming extremely worried deep down.
“Damn,” Kate muttered, out of frustration and used
the instrument again, refusing to give up on saving
the older woman’s life.
Aerdan informed, his heart sinking in gloom. “She’s
going into prolonged apnea.” Prolonged apnea went by
another name, Respiratory arrest, which was caused by
factors such as lung failure, paralysis of diaphragm.
The aCMO realized that time was up for his fellow
Andorian, but wondered if his boss realized that yet.
He touched Sheyral’s hand, feeling it go limp as the
seizures stopped. He heard Kate demand a cardio
stimulator from Kaikura, who dutifully provided the
instrument to the slightly frantic CMO, who somehow
managed to sport a professional demeanor.
The Scot pointed the cardio stimulator at the
patient’s chest, just above her heart and activated
the instrument. The device began sending electrical
impulses to the heart hoping to reawaken it. She
looked up at Aerdan, inquiring in a low voice.
“Anything?”
“No,” Jos replied and was about to inform MacNeil her
efforts were futile but bit his lip instead. He
watched with a feeling of helplessness as Kate made
another attempt to revive the unconscious woman. But
sadly nothing showed up on his tricorder. He had hoped
Kate would give up after informing her of seeing
nothing on the tricorder, but to his dismay the Scot
kept giving another try.
Kate whispered, through clenched teeth. “Come on, you
have to wake up.” She increased power of the device
and made another attempt. Nothing happened, once again
and it was then Aerdan stepped in, by gently grabbing
the chief’s hand holding the device.
Jos informed, softly. “Kate, it’s too late. You need
to stop.” He let go of the half-Nuimon’s hand and
watched her with a grim look in his blue eyes.
The Scot, still holding the stimulator, stared
intently at the limp form of the Andorian woman,
finally realizing that Aerdan was right. She was dead.
They had failed to save another patient and that made
the CMO hurt, despite trying to maintain a calm and
professional demeanor. She slowly placed the
instrument down on the table and announced, quietly.
“Time of death, 1429 hrs.” The doctor placed the
instrument on the table and left the room, without
saying another room.
Aerdan watched her leave the room, before addressing
Kaikura. “Clean up, everything here. I’ll have to
check on Dr. MacNeil.”
“Yes sir,” the nurse nodded.
~*~*~*~*~
Scene: A corner, outside the tent
“There you are, Kate. I’ve been looking all over…”
Aerdan paused, upon spotting the Scot leaning against
the tent walls, head placed in her hands. Concerned,
the Andorian walked up to the tall woman and inquired,
softly. “Are you alright?” He watched Kate lift her
head up and noticed the worn out look in her indigo
eyes. Jos realized the Scottish woman had been crying
but did not say it out loud.
“I’ll be fine,” MacNeil replied, in a shaky voice.
“Just needed some fresh air.” She sighed heavily,
wondering whether she wanted to be alone or accept
Aerdan’s company.
Aerdan began, assuring. “You shouldn’t blame
yourself.”
Kate frowned, doing all her best to fight back her
tears. "Then who should I blame? Dr. Foster for
getting them into this mess? This planet?
Starfleet?" The words were searching, like a stick
thrown into the night to see if anything out there
might retrieve it.
"How about the people farming the drugs. They are the
ones responsible." Dr. Jos straightened himself, his
voice had a comforting, fatherly ring to it.
Kate paused and took a long shattered breath into her
lungs. "That still doesn't bring them back."
"Nothing ever will. Even if we kill ourselves over
it they will still be gone. All we can do now is
carry on and remember." He blinked slightly, antennae
curved inwards.
Kate let her breath ripple out through her teeth and
turned to face away from Aerdan. "It is such a ... a
stupid thing. To die from a drug being farmed on an
unknown planet." Her voice was ragged and frustrated.
"You were working on a vaccine." Aerdan started. The
Scot cut him off. Turning her face was flushed, she
wasn’t crying, but she might have been.
"You saw the results, it won't be finished for another
two days! I wasn't fast enough... I didn't..." She
broke off, turning away again.
Aerdan stood, watching, head tipped to one side,
feeling slightly helpless. Slowly he reached out a
tentative hand to touch her shoulder. "Dr.
MacNeil.... Kate..." she shrugged him lightly away and
he drew his hand back as if bitten. He was notably
skittish about personal contact, the remnants of a
bizarre and ancient code of honor still winding its
way through his head, but he tried one more time.
"Kate... do you still think the vaccine will be a
success?"
The Human/Nuimon hybrid didn't turn but she shook her
head. "I had thought so before. I didn't realize how
quickly it destroyed the respiratory system... It's
going to need modification" She paused to breathe
again, shaking her head.
Dr. Jos' voice was steady and calm. "I think that if
Ensign Baker and Lt. Sheryal knew that a lot of people
could be saved from what we learned today, they would
be very proud of you."
"I would rather have them alive." she sounded
exhausted.
"So would I." He reached out again to touch her
shoulder before turning to help Kaikura clean up. Kate
watched him leaving before turning to face the wall,
still feeling slightly teary eyed. She was a
professional doctor, with a couple of years’
experience, she should not be crying, yet the young 27
year old woman could not help it. At least, she was a
bit glad of not breaking down back in the shuttle.
Somehow Kate could not help but feel responsible for
Baker and Sheyral’s deaths. The Scot took a couple of
moments to compose herself before returning back to
the tent to work on the vaccine as well as ensure no
one else died under her watch.

TI: Post titled ‘Kate’s Dilemma’ written by myself
As the troupe of PROPHECY officers and Ty walked
cautiously down the narrow trail through the forest, a
sense of dread and melancholy shown on Kathryn
MacNeil’s face. The Scot felt humiliated…in fact
downright violated. The reunion with Aerdan, her
parents and introducing the Andorian aCMO to Malcolm
and Elizabeth…all those big moments were indeed a lie.
Just for those few minutes, the PROPHECY CMO felt a
great joy in watching her parents and Aerdan and Ishe
get along well with each other. However…and a very bad
however…it was all a fabrication, which exacerbated
the embarrassment for the Scot.
“Are you okay, Kate?”
The taller hybrid let out an exasperated sigh. “Oh…I
don’t know…Oh I’ll be fine.”
“I can sense something’s wrong.” Maddie raised an
eyebrow and offered, kindly. “And I have an idea as to
what.”
The Scot produced a weak smile, comforted by her
Captain’s words. “I should have known they were just
holograms.”
“You’re not a telepath, Kate,” Zanders pointed out,
before adding. “So it’s okay if you didn’t realize
your parents and Aerdan were not real.”
Kate vehemently shook her head, sighing again. “No
it’s not. I’m a doctor and supposed to be good at
observing people. I should have realized the
difference between holograms and living people.” Her
shoulders drooped slightly and Mads could see a solemn
look wash over the Scottish woman’s face. “I mean,
come on. How could someone get the exact mannerisms of
my parents? That’s utterly impossible!” She spoke in a
harsh whisper directed at herself, so as to not arouse
any attention towards the group.
Maddie nodded, her training as Counselor kicking in.
“I can understand your frustrations and don’t blame
you for being angry, violated and embarrassed
altogether.” She calmly assured, gently touching the
tall doctor’s arm.
“I must have gotten caught up in the big moment to the
point where I could not tell they were indeed
holograms,” MacNeil murmured, her tone grim. “I wasn’t
suspicious during that time…not even a wee bit.”
Zanders assured, producing a tiny smile. “Listen,
Kate. I think you must have worked yourself up for a
possible big moment between Aerdan and your parents.
When you met the holographic versions of them,
thinking they were real and things worked out well in
the meeting, you thought you had passed that big
hurdle.” The Vulcan hybrid paused for a moment, before
continuing. “But it all came crashing down, when you
soon realized they were only holograms and you may
have to go through this all over again with the living
Aerdan and your parents.” She then questioned. “Am I
right?”
Kate shook her head. “Yes, you’re right, Maddie.” The
half-Nuimon tilted her head downwards, processing her
CO’s words. She realized the uncertainty still existed
as to whether her parents would like Aerdan or not and
that gnawed at her a bit. The Scot sighed, knowing she
would have to go through that moment all over again,
if or when that ever happened.

“Aerdan?” Kate ears perked up at a projection of the
Andorian aCMO’s voice coming from beyond the trees.
Her heart skipped a beat as the tall doctor was
becoming nervous. “Is it really you, Aerdan or just a
projection?” **Stop torturing me with this, whoever
you’re. This can’t be real. **
The voice became louder, this time clearer. “Kate…”
The Scot’s heart sank as she recognized the Andorian’s
voice. “Is this a trick?” She questioned, becoming a
little suspicious. Despite her doubts and better
judgment, the half-Nuimon still ran towards the source
of the voice, which took her off track and deep into
the darkened woods.
The darkness, caused by the dense undergrowth of the
trees, slowed down the doctor’s pace as she tried to
race towards Aerdan’s voice or…at least a projection
of it. Her eyes shifted to a glowing light blue. Beads
of sweat began appearing on her forehead and they
flowed down her cheek like a tiny stream. She began
gasping for breath, feeling tempted to stop and rest,
but could not take the chance for fear of running into
drones and losing track of the voice.
To the hybrid’s amazement, the program shifted from
the forest to an urban setting, which the doctor
immediately recognized. “This can’t be right.” She
questioned, staring at some structure in front of her.
“What am I doing in Cardiff?” The doctor realized
perhaps one of the holosuite users were involved in a
program set in Cardiff, Wales. It was night and the
millennium center was looming right in front of the
tall doctor. Kate had only visited Cardiff once with
her grandfather, when she was a child.
“Why is Aerdan’s voice not calling me?” Kate
questioned, slowly becoming agitated. “Where did it
disappear to?” She called out. “Aerdan!” No answer.
“Aerdan, where are you?” Deep down, the CMO knew
Aerdan was safely outside the holosuites and the voice
was merely a projection to lure her into a trap.
Unfortunately, the usually calm woman was overwhelmed
with emotions and was not exactly thinking clearly at
the moment.
“Kate, I’m here,” a holographic version of the
Andorian aCMO called out, softly, making the auburn
haired woman turn towards him.
The hybrid, whose eyes were still glowing blue, did
not even move a muscle as she was faced with a
dilemma. **He can’t be real. ** She watched the blue
skinned man approach her, extending his arms. Kathryn
became puzzled over Jos’ face expression, which was
filled with immense happiness. She also found it odd
that his generally shaggy, white hair was neatly
combed.
As Aerdan came within mere inches of her position, he
began in a soft and dreamy voice. He held her hand in
his own. “Kate, I’ve been wanting to say this to you
for a long time.”
Kate felt her heart beat faster. **This is not real.
** She wrestled with her feelings, staggering back a
bit.
-----------
“Kate,” the Aerdan hologram continued, staring
lovingly at the taller woman. “Ever since our dinner,
I’ve developed these feelings for you.”
The Scot gaped, feeling shocked at the words spouting
from the aCMO’s mouth. **He’s a hologram. Aerdan is
not openly expressive like this man here. ** She could
not help becoming emotional, despite knowing the words
were said by a hologram.
“I love you, Kate,” the 5’9” Andorian revealed,
becoming slightly teary eyed. “I want to be with you
till the end of eternity.”
The CMO froze at the declaration of love and her eyes
grew wide, when Jos began spewing poetry. **This can’t
be happening. Does the real Aerdan honestly feel like
that for me? ** She tried to rationalize. **Even if he
did, he wouldn’t be so open about it. ** When the
Andorian pulled her into an embrace, Kate had enough
of the trickery and pushed him away.
Hologram Aerdan asked, disappointment washing over his
features and antennae wilting a bit. “Kate? Why are
you rejecting me?” He watched the tall Nuimon hybrid
walk slowly away from him. “Please don’t leave me,”
the hologram pleaded.
MacNeil snapped, shaking. “You’re not him. You’re just
a replica and toying with my emotions.” Suddenly the
Scot heard a chorus of monotone voices that chilled
her to the bone. Kate slowly glanced behind her and
became horrified at the sight facing her. A group of
hundred drones were marching towards her.
“Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.”
Kathryn was panting and glanced around, searching for
a way to escape. Spotting a dock with boats
everywhere, the Scottish woman immediately went into a
sprint, not knowing what her next move was. The Borg
collective continued to follow her. She could still
hear the standard Borg mantra.
“Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated,” the
collective voices continued.
Tears began falling from the doctor’s glowing blue
eyes, when she realized her comrades could be part of
the collective chasing her. She was nearing the edge
of the docks and made a decision to take a plunge into
the waters of the holographic version of Cardiff Bay.
Feeling confident of her swimming skills, Kate dived
into the water before the collective reached her.
After swimming underwater a few feet away from the
docks, the CMO popped above for some air. Kate
shivered due to the cold air and was wet from head to
toe. She gave a huge sigh of relief upon having
escaped the collective and wondered about her next
step. The doctor knew she could not return back to the
docks. **Maybe take one of the boats…** MacNeil’s
train of thoughts was interrupted, when something
under the bay waters grabbed her foot and began
pulling her under. A look of horror shown on her face,
when Borg implants grew all over hand. Her escape
attempts failed. She was being assimilated.

“Kate?” Mowree Nurunyon, the station’s aCNS addressed,
becoming concerned for the doctor as beads of cold
sweat flowed down her forehead.
MacNeil snapped out of her thoughts and sighed with
relief. “Sorry, I got distracted, Mowree.” She rose to
her full height and turned to the feline officer.
The Caitian shook his head. “You don’t have to
apologize. It’s a stressful situation for all of us.”
“That’s true,” Kate shrugged, her purple eyes staring
grimly at the Counselor. “This is just a disaster. All
this violence and people dying. It’s just terrible and
seems it’s only going to get worse.”
Mowree agreed, sadly. “Indeed it is.”

“Something wrong, Leticia?”

NRPG: Started this post a while back. I promise my
next post will deal with the present and have more
