“More Chaos”
(contd from Shawn’s ‘Wolf at the Door’)
Location: BAJOR

Scene: Tinuviel Valley Hotel- Reception Area
TI: Day after Gene’s funeral
Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Haley plopped down on the couch, munching on his bagel sandwich. Bags were placed on the side, ready to be transported back to their ship. “There you are, Ana,” the half-El Aurian called out, his blue eyes beaming upon watching the Trill woman approaching.
Anaqueen Spankryz mentioned a tinge of wariness evident in her voice. “You won’t believe what I’ve just agree to do.”
Her husband inquired, out of concern. “What happened with Xana?”
The Trill woman sighed. “She wants to return to the fleet.”
“Why’s that a problem?” Matthew questioned, looking bewildered. “She was an excellent officer, despite her unorthodox ways. And in this dire situation with the Dominion, we need every able hand that can help.”
Ana clarified. “Her request to reentering the fleet is not the issue here, at least not with me. It’s just that she’s doing it immediately after Gene’s death and that concerns me.” The couple, married for four years, became silent for a few minutes, their thoughts on the azure woman. Both recalled the service the previous day and felt sad for Xana.
Haley slowly questioned, breaking the silence. “So Xana plans on rejoining the senior staff of the station?”
Spankryz shook her head. “No. She wants to take command of the newly commissioned USS MCINNIS, a vessel that would serve out of the GATEWAY but working independently.”
“A ship named after her husband,” the hybrid murmured. “I can understand Xana wanting to do this, be CO of a unit that will allow her the chance to take revenge on the Dominion for killing the man she loved.”
Ana stated, grimly. “Unfortunately, most of fleet command may not see it that way.”
“Yet, I get the feeling you have agreed to her request despite your misgivings,” Matthew guessed.
The Trill Captain confirmed with a nod. “Xana can be very persuasive and she had this planned out thoroughly.” Ana knew her former ExO on the PROPHECY carried her heart on her sleeve and also believed the Bolian hybrid, despite her unorthodox methods, was a very good Starfleet officer. The Trill could not help but worry over the outcome of the Italian woman’s proposed mission plan, should SFC reinstate her as CO of the MCINNIS. “Are you ready, Matthew?” Ana inquired, noting the bags.
The half-El Aurian nodded. “Yes.”

Location: GS-2
Scene: Sickbay
TI: After Shawn's post
And so it began all over again. The Dominion had struck again, engulfing the station and the surrounding fleet in another battle. The medical staff from both the station and the taskforce was coordinating the triage together and putting all their efforts and skills learned from the Academy and previous experiences in their careers to treating the wounded. They needed to save as many lives as they could and expected the casualty list to be high.
Kathryn MacNeil sighed inwardly as she was checking up a Bajoran man in his late twenties. The man had a gash to his forehead, which the doctor deduced to be due to an object having hit him and was suffering from a concussion. Kate also discovered the Bajoran’s optical nerve was damaged, rendering him blind. Glancing around the room, which was completely full, the Scot decided, turning to a nurse. “This one’s going to the MERCY for further treatment.”
“Yes ma’am,” the nurse complied as Kate moved onto the next patient. The MERCY was capable to holding a maximum of 850 patients and thus it was decided between Dr. Gorman and Dr. MacNeil that the sanctity class medical vessel handled majority of the surgeries and all birth deliveries. The station’s sickbay took care of a number of emergency surgeries in ICU. The MERCY also scanned the station for any wounded and transported whoever they could to sickbay.
MacNeil then checked out a human woman, who was complaining bitterly not about her injuries, consisting only of bruises on the wrist and arms but the loss of her business in the promenade. The half-Nuimon concluded. “Minor injuries, you should be okay soon.”
“No I’m not,” the woman wailed. “I lost my livelihood. I let my husband leave with our two children and now I’m lost. What am I going to do?”
The Nuimon hybrid glanced around for a Counselor as that was who the patient needed. Spotting Tam Niala heading her way, Kate questioned. “Will you take care of this woman?”
“Sure,” the Bajoran Counselor from the PATRIOT nodded.
The doctor added, sounding concerned. “Her injuries are minor and she badly needs emotional help as well.”
The other woman acknowledged. “Understood.”
Kathryn hoped with the reopening of the wormhole, more reinforcements would be sent. The doctor came upon an elderly Bolian man whose injuries looked to be very severe. He was just brought into the room by a security officer, who explained the patient got caught in a stampede of anxious civilians while in the midst of evacuating to one of the ships. The Bolian was placed gently on an empty biobed.
He was heard mumbling, ‘the wrath of Design’ as the Scottish woman quickly examined him. “Skull fracture. He’s hemorrhaging very badly.” Kate sighed, making a decision. “He needs…” She was interrupted, when alarms began blaring off from the biobed console. “He’s going into cardiac arrest.” She ordered a nurse. “We need to stabilize him.” Unfortunately their efforts ended up in vain. The patient died a few seconds later. The half-Nuimon informed the nurse, calmly. “Get him to the morgue.” Kate then proceeded to the next person with the grim realization that the situation was going to get worse.
Meanwhile, Jeff Gorman and his assistant were dealing with two Ferengi. The one Gorman was checking was clutching his ears rather tightly and howling in pain. The other, a female, was hopping up and down on one leg, screaming. The GATEWAY CMO informed, feeling annoyed. “My tricorder found nothing wrong with your ears. So you can quit the act now.”
The Ferengi stopped squealing and slowly released his ears. He stared at Jeff, pretending to look innocent. “Really? There’s nothing wrong with my ears?”
The aCMO reported. “Her leg’s fine. No injuries were found.”
Jeff motioned with his hand to a security officer and requested, pointing at the Ferengi couple. “Please take these two away. There is nothing wrong with them.”
“Right away, sir,” the security guard complied as she grabbed hold off the two Ferengi and left the scene with them kicking and screaming.
The assistant remarked in disbelief. “I can’t believe anyone would waste our time with fake injuries.”
“They were probably trying to find an easy way to get off the station,” the CMO suggested, dismally as he immediately moved onto the next patient.
