"So you circle all the wagons
And you hide behind the trees,
And you try to find some courage on your knees.
When you heard the sound of taps played
By the one man band,
You knew this is where you'd have to make
Your last stand."

  Harry Chapin

Catherine Sterling-Jade and Daisy Byrne Davidson looked enough alike to pass for sisters. Both were tall and blonde with big brown eyes and similiar bone structure. Both were products of genetic engineering. In Catherine's case - from birth. In Daisy's case,
she had been born and raised human. Then, she was taken and her DNA was altered by the species known by Starfleet only as
"the Associates of Gary Seven".

Daisy's alien ability didn't give her much of an edge in battle. Her immune system was superior and she resisted radiation. Whatever capabilities she'd had defending herself in hand-to-hand combat were an entirely ordinary and human mixture of simple sparring sessions with members of the Security department she'd been involved with romantically and her medical knowledge as a doctor telling her where she'd be likely to cause the most damage with a good, solid kick. Though her limited shape-shifting ability sometimes enabled her to make a quick escape from danger and sometimes, the burst of blue light she created when she used that ability made an effective diversion for others who were better warriors than herself - this ability was designed as a tool for reconnaissance than defense. In the form of a small domesticated cat, she could hide in plain sight and be "dismissed" as a lower life form while she used the senses of a feline for gathering information.

Her appreciation of her new XO had grown tremendously over the past few hours. Lt. Kor had come to her aid more than once with tactical insight that a medical doctor and psychologist lacked. There was a quiet moment when Daisy managed to put her hand on her XO's arm and give her a little smile.

"We survive this day - I'm making you a Lieutenant Commander."

Eishnala blinked, surprised Daisy would blurt out something like that infront of everyone. Then, she heard the terrible sound of a transporter hum as Jem Hadar began appearing around the Ops area. She jumped out of her chair, pulled her weapon and fired. Others were doing the same. In the split second it took for one of the soldiers to go straight for Daisy. Eishnala made like the good soldier she was and tried to put herself infront of Daisy. The beam grazed her arm, burning through the muscle.

She saw a flash of blue light - which was oddly confusing for a woman with blue skin and blue blood. The Andorian woman
thought maybe she was halucinating. Then, she heard a loud "mewing" as Daisy flew across the Ops area in her feline form and
dived into a small escape "Kitty door" that Mav had ordered added to the Ops area just for her.

Grasping her painfully injured arm, Eishnala struggled to pull herself to her feet. She tried bravely to pull her weapon and felt the sudden "thud" of a Jem Hadar thumping the butt-end of his weapon against the back of her head. She dropped to the floor once again and grimaced in pain. Her vision was blurry as she saw the Jem Hadar take Daisy's chair and hail the Dominion Flag ship.

   LOCATION: Dominion Flagship
 SCENE: Bridge

Vertec and the Jem Hadar were congradulating each other on a job well done. Their confidence that what little resistance they were still finding on the station would soon be squashed - was absolute. Then, an impact tremor hit the flag ship and Vertec's face changed. It was like nothing the Jem Hadar had seen before.

  She was scared.

Fifty starships flowed out of the now-restored wormhole in a smooth wave. They flowed into combat formations and continued firing on the Dominion ships. It began the kind of battle songs are written about - where a glorious rescue arrives at the last possible minute before what was looking like a terrible defeat.

One day, Daisy's own kids would hear about this day and LJ would be singing "The Ballad of Gateway"

"It had been something like a butcher going berserk
Or God himself acting like a fool
Or the bravest thing Starfleet had ever done
Or just the Universe blowing it's cool

They came through the wormhole like a knife through butter
Or a scythe sweeping through the grass
Or to say it like the people said it themselves
"It was time for us to kick ass!"

Short - but affective - I hope. Just lets you know I'm still here. LOL

Everyone congradulate Katrina - for all that she's done to help me get settled in as CO - I'm making Eishnala a Lieutenant Commander.

The question remains - how badly did all of you get your asses kicked before those 50 ships Taylor wrote about came through the Wormhole to save the day?
