Time index: A few hours after Ranjani's post

Lieutenant Trella Palandora had to call in reinforcements to keep the
morbidly curious away from Ops. She was guarding the entrance to
Daisy's ready room personally when Kate approached.
"Hi, my name is..."
"I'm aware of who you are, Dr. MacNeil." the new Security chief
interrupted flatly. "The footage of you discussing Commander
Davidson with that reporter has been replaying non-stop at every public
terminal."
Kate grimaced and began to wring her hands apologetically. "Any
chance she'll talk to me?"
The comm system beeped. {{ "Dr. MacNeil, Please report to the
Commanding Officer's ready room" }}
Trella smiled politely. "I guess that answers that question."
Kate recognized the Marine sitting behind Daisy's desk and nodded.
"Colonel Maverick."
Daisy was standing by the window with her arms over her chest.
She sighed and avoided looking at Kate.
"Oh, Daisy - I'm so sorry." Kate gushed, walking towards her friend.
Mav was quick to clear his throat and scold her. "I believe that's close
enough, Dr. MacNeil."
Kate blinked. "Sir?"
"You might want to stay on your side of the ready room. For your own
safety." the Marine managed a weak, polite grin.
Kate glanced back and forth between Daisy and Mav. Then, she hung
her head and meekly replied. "Yes, sir."
"My children are on their way to Starbase Nine. Did you know that?"
Daisy began cryptically.
Kate felt a knot in her stomach and sighed. "Are they ok?"
"Erika was bragging to another little girl. She boasted a bit when
she learned the other little girl's Mom was going to work in the science
department here....." Daisy began. "My daughter beamed
with pride and boasted ' You better be nice to me because *My Mom*
is gonna be the boss of your Mom.' and made the other child cry. "
Daisy paused to take a breath. "Erek went to apologize and the girl
was sitting with her Mom and watching the footage of you....."
Kate clenched her fists at her side. "Oh, god..."
"Erika had to listen to an angry eight year old boasting, 'Atleast my
Mom isn't some kind of wierd 'Cat woman'. I bet your Mom isn't even *AT*
GATEWAY anymore. I bet they took her away and
put her in a ZOO!!."
Kate's eyes filled with tears. "I don't know what to say."
"You should have called Security and complained about the reporter. I
would have had her banned from the station. Instead, you gave her my
secret on a platter." Daisy shook her head. Her voice
was strangely calm.
"The Mercy is leaving next week and I wanted to see if there was
anything I could do to make up for this, Daisy...." Kate's voice
quivered. "When I get back to Earth...."
"You're not going back to Earth." Daisy replied coldly.
"What?" Kate blinked.
"I've had a bit of time to consider what I should do about this and about
you...." Daisy added coldly. "I've already contacted EARTH about your
breech of medical ethics...."
Kate blinked. "Daisy, no..."
Daisy stood up straight and walked towards Kate. Mav stood up,
watching Daisy closely, genuinely afraid for Kate's safety.
"You may address me as Commander Davidson. I've been in contact
with Starfleet Medical and I summoned you here to inform you that your
medical license has been suspended for a mandatory
six months. "
Kate looked away, shocked. Her bottom lip quivered slightly.
"I understand, Commander."
"I'm not finished." Daisy chided her. "You are to be transfered
to the Operations department of GATEWAY station affective
immediately."
Kate blinked and faced Daisy. "You want me here?"
The two women faced each other and Daisy replied flatly. "Yes,
you're going to be here to witness the consequences of what you've
done to me. You're going to see what happens to my life and the
lives of my children because you couldn't be bothered to call Security
for help and instead let yourself blurt out confidential information about
me to a Reporter, of all people!"
Kate lowered her eyes and sighed. "You have lost your Chief medical
officer now that Dr. Gorman is being promoted to XO of the PATRIOT."
"Lt. Commander MacNeil, I have more than enough physicians in my
sickbay. You won't be needed there. Instead, while you will be taking
engineering and science refreshers until Mr. Crichton, Mr. Drake and
Mr. Varn so that you'll be able to work as my new Operations officer. "
Kate frowned awkwardly. Then, she squared her shoulders and replied,
"Yes, Commander."
"Once you leave this room, you'll need to change your uniform. You'll
begin your new job at 0700hrs. tomorrow morning." Daisy replied, her
tone crisp and cold. "There's a new pet store near the Arboretum and
they offer pet Daycare for Starfleet officers. You can have your animals
cared for there while you are on duty.
"I hope someday you can forgive me for what happened....Commander..."
Kate sighed.
Daisy's gave Kate a hurt look and said, "Maybe someday.....but not today."
Again, Kate lowered her eyes. "Anything else, Commander?"
"You're dismissed." Daisy replied flatly.
Kate left, devestated.
Mav shook his head at Daisy. "Remind me never to piss you off, Moo...."
Daisy glared at him. "Shaddup. It's only fair. She's turned my life
upside down. Now, I'm going to do the same to her's."
"Has it really been that bad?" Mav chuckled weakly.
Daisy groaned. "I've had three proposals of marriage. One amateur
holonovel writer asked me if he could do some children's programs about ...."
Daisy made quotation marks in the air with her fingers as she said,
"The Adventures of Commander Catwoman."
Mav had to lean on Daisy's desk as he found himself laughing. She
punched him in the arm and scolded him, "It's not funny."
He laughed. "It is a little bit. Come on."
Daisy stomped her foot and whined. "I have children, Maverick. Erika
already got into trouble. What about Gavi and LJ?"
The Marine pulled her into a hug and sighed. "The boys are good kids.
They'll be ok..."
Daisy sniffled and muttered. "My poor Erika."
Maverick started sniggering. "You do know she's a spoiled brat, right?"
Daisy thumped her hand on his muscular chest and groaned.
"Shaddup and gimme another hug before you go."
Mav groaned and complied. Daisy put her head on his shoulder and asked
in a pitiful voice.
"You'll take care of Ben, right?"
"Well, not the way *YOU* usually do..." Mav teased.
Again, Daisy smacked him.
He grimaced. "Dammit, woman. Stop hitting me."
"Just keep an eye on Ben for me, ok?"
"Yeah, yeah...." Mav groaned. "I'll try to keep his sorry ass out
of trouble."
Daisy managed a weak grin and thought of the siblings she and
Mav both fostered, Jaxsper "LJ" Lawrence and Joshua "JT" Lawrence.
"Sorry our boys didn't get along better over the holiday. Maybe we'll try again
in a couple months?"
"Sure." Mav smiled.

Ran - you can design your Ops department for Lt. Commander MacNeil. I hope
I did well writing Kate's reaction. :)
Taylor - Ran will be Station Ops - not "Strategic Ops" we still need that.
