Not flying like she did when she flew a ship, encased in transparisteel and viewing everything through processed images and readouts and computer screens, cut offfrom everything real, everything organic. Nor was it flying like a bird, or a hang glider, wrapped up in the imminent danger, focusing, seeing things only in front of you, fretting about catching the currents, plummeting down to the earth. It was something in between, something glorious, something wonderful. Something that left her aching when she woke up like unrequited love. In her dreams she soared effortlessly through space, powerful, fast beyond belief. She was part of everything, a traveler that was at once a visitor and integral. Shehad no 'body' she had no physical limitations. She was nothing but power, moving through the liquid darkness of space, sinuous, dangerous, searching. Sometimes she dreamed of fighting in space, felt the pain, felt the heat of explosions ripple across her skin, making the hairs stand on end. But still, she woke craving it, like an addict. Only she had no idea what it was she wanted.... Tanith opened her eyes and shuddered. She looked forward to sleeping, to come close again to whatever it was that she wanted so desperately, but also hatedthe inevitable waking, and the emptiness it produced. She sighed and stretched her bony frame out against the wall, and took a long drink from the pitcher on thestand near her bed. Walking over to her replicator, she punched one of her pre programmed buttons and retrieved the ration cubes from it. She ate these withoutpleasure. Eating wasn't something she'd ever learned to enjoy, as a child it was something to be eaten as quickly as possible, without tasting, the better to ignorethat it was stale or beginning to go bad. Her comm badge beeped, and she leaned over and pressed it. "Tanith." She said, and yawned. [[Lt. Corwin, make your way up to the observation lounge, we'll be having a meeting here.]] Kenta's voice was tense. She sympathized with him, she rememberedhow much she'd hated when her pilots had been in harms way during the previous battles. To know for certain that your people were captured or worse, well, guilt must be killing him. "Got it boss." She grabbed her uniform top and pulled it on as she exited.* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Scene: Observation lounge. "Well, if any have been taken to the ship already, they are in more trouble than we can assist with in our current condition." Sanba said thoughtfully. "Not exactly true. We could try to fly a shuttle in, unnoticed, and attempt to infiltrate the battleship." The new XO said thoughtfully. "The only problem is, to do that, we'll need a diversion, a really big diversion, which we can't have until the PATRIOT is ready to fight again." "Even if they're fighting the PATRIOT, they'll hardly let even something as small as a shuttle go unnoticed." Ben frowned. "That's not strictly true." Tanith pursed her lips, her sunken eyes meditative. "If they think it's space junk, they won't give it a second thought. The only problem is to set that up, we'd have to let them hit us, so we could let the shuttle loose in the wreckage, and then you'd have to both avoid being hit again, lure the ship right on top of the shuttle and then drop it's shields. Then the people on the shuttle could magnetically seal onto the battleship, and space walk to a convenient entry point. Of course, that's both a million to one shot, and something that's probably foolhardy and only works in holomovies. It would be much easier to send a rescue team down to the planet." "But we've no idea where the base is on the planet, or the amount of troops, or even if they're still there." Ben pointed out. "Plus, if we can take out the battleship, it may make planetary rescue easier, and diffuse the entire situation." "True, but the risks of losing the rescue team is much much higher for infiltrating the battleship." His XO frowned. Tanith shrugged. "Whatever you decide, I'll fly for it." She said flippantly. "I live for challenges." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NRPG: Another post? OMG! I think that already puts me ahead of last year ;) Anyhow, I thought I'd shake things up on the ship. Lets see what happens. We can't leave you all to be tortured and punched around, can we? ;) Alix Fowler<selyara_at_hotmail.com>Commander SelyaraCOUSS PATRIOT'A dew sufficed itselfAnd satisfied a leaf,And said How vast a destinyHow trivial is life.'-Emily Dickenson. _________________________________________________________________ Climb to the top of the charts!
