“A Complicated Situation”

Con’t from Bethany’s “Going Wrong”

=========

Location: DOMINION BATTLESHIP

Stardate: 2422 [2.8] 0226.0503

Scene: Main Bridge

“Sir,” reported the Jem’Hadar Third, in charge of a set of controls on the
battleship’s bridge that loosely resembled a normal Starfleet operations
station. “I am picking up a resonance signal from inside the nebula.”

“Can you identify it?” the Jem’Hadar First asked. With the headset on that
allowed him to see out into space, he was required to turn his head to look
at the Third.

“No sir, I cannot,” the Third replied. “However, I can say with certainty
that it is not natural to this phenomenon.”

“How?” the First asked.

“While the Dominion did not previously have full charts of this area,” the
Third replied. “Long range scans were able to analyze the natural frequency
of all of the particles in this nebula. In addition to that, the various
resonant frequencies were extrapolated based on that information. The
signal I am picking up does not correspond to any of those frequencies.”

The Jem’Hadar First was silent for a moment, considering the options that
were currently available to him. “Continue your attempt to identify the
signal,” he instructed. “In the meantime, I shall seek the Vorta’s guidance
on whether we should pursue the signal or not.”

“There is a chance that the signal could dissipate before you are done,” the
Second observed, having been listening to the entire conversation.

“There is also a chance that this may be a previously unknown phenomenon
that could do harm to the battleship,” the First replied. “In which case,
we will have lost our strategic advantage over the two Federation vessels.
Caution is called for at the moment Second. At least, it is called for
until the Vorta or I determine otherwise.”

The Second bowed his head slightly. “As you wish sir,” he said.

Location: USS PATRIOT

Scene: Main Bridge

[[Captain,]] came the voice of the PATRIOT’s Executive Officer over internal
communications. [[All preparations to the shuttle are complete. We can
launch whenever you are ready.]]

“Acknowledged Commander,” Kenta replied. “Standby.”

“Captain,” Sanba reported from the operations station. “We will not be able
to determine the position of the battleship until we have cleared the
nebula. It is quite possible therefore that we may exit the nebula at a
location that will put us in close proximity to them.”

“All the better,” Kenta replied, a grim expression lining his face. “The
more of a diversion the PATRIOT is, the less likely the Dominion are to go
after the shuttle.”

“Indeed sir,” Sanba answered, inclining her head slightly in agreement.

“Well,” Kenta said, drawing a deep breath and letting it out. “I guess
there’s no time like the pre…”

“Captain!” Sanba exclaimed, cutting the Captain off. “A Dominion shuttle
just entered visual range.”

“On screen,” Kenta said, standing up and staring at the shuttle as it slowly
made its way closer to the ship.

“The shuttle is hailing us,” came the report from tactical. After Kenta’s
prompt, the image of the shuttlecraft on screen was replaced by the image of
a harried but otherwise normal looking Bret Maverick.

{{Request permission to dock Captain,}} Maverick said. {{I have all of the
marines minus Major Clarkson on board, along with Lieutenant Jade and Ensign
Tam.}}

“Understood,” Kenta answered, turning to look at Sanba. “Clear them for
docking in Shuttlebay 2.” Without waiting for an answer, he tapped his comm.
Badge. “Kenta to Gorman. Commander, we have some of our people coming into
the shuttlebay where you are. Prepare to assist with any wounded they might
have.”

Kenta turned back to the screen. “I want you to report to my ready room the
moment you get on board Colonel,” he said. “We need more information on the
situation.”

========

NRPG: Okay folks, we’re on the home stretch. This mission is still set to
end on March 2nd or 3rd one way or another, so if you have something you
want to add to the mission, time is growing short.

There are a number of things that you can address:

- The situation on the planet

- Daniel’s situation on the battleship

- The battleship’s actions as they try to identify the resonant
signal sent out by the CABOT changeling and determine a course of action

- The conversation between Mav and Kenta

- Concocting a plan to deal with rescuing Daniel and the people on
the surface

- Anything else you can think of

So far this mission we’re averaging more than a post every couple of days,
which makes me happy since I’ve enjoyed reading all of it! Now you’ve got a
chance to go ahead and push things to the climax, however you see fit =)

Until next time!
