======== “Chats” Continued from Naomi’s “Home Coming” ======== Location: EARTH (San Francisco, California, United States) Stardate: 2424 [2.8] 0307.2053 Scene: Corridor of SFC Building “I read your official report regarding the final fight with the Dominion battleship,” Archer said as he and Daniel continued down the corridor. “That was some quick thinking given the circumstances.” Daniel shrugged. “Every now and then being a doctor comes in handy,” he replied. “Probably more so since the start of the war,” Archer commented with a grim smile as the two of them came to a balcony area that overlooked the bay. Seeing that nobody else was currently in there, Archer stepped out onto the balcony and waved his hand for Daniel to follow. “I thought we were going to your office,” Daniel said, walking out and coming to a halt next to his brother-in-law. “We were,” Archer answered. “But this is a much better place to chat.” He was silent for a few moments, leaning on the balcony and staring out at the scenery. Not knowing quite what to say since he’d always felt rather intimidated by the man, Daniel stood quietly with him, his own eyes looking out over the water as he wondered what was to come. “In some ways this war is going to be a lot easier to fight than the first one was,” Archer commented finally. “And in other ways, it’s going to be harder.” “What you really mean to say,” Daniel continued for him, still looking forward at the water. “Is that my kind of fighting will be easier, but yours will be harder.” Archer shot a glance in his direction, before smiling slightly. “You might say that,” he agreed, before turning his own gaze back forward. “From a tactical point of view, the Dominion was crazy to declare war on the Federation. Even if they had managed to annex GATEWAY into their territory, it would have gone in as an independent entity because of what Captain Kane did. As it stands, they threw a lot of ships at the attack and ended up with no substantial gain as a result.” Daniel nodded. “The Federation has grown since the first war,” he said. “In both size and stature. Where once we barely triumphed over one section of their forces, now Starfleet can match the full might of the Dominion in battle and fight them to a standstill in the Gamma Quadrant without any major battles being fought near the founding worlds.” “You were paying attention during your 24th century Starfleet Military History classes,” Archer said with a chuckle. “Required reading for all marines,” Daniel answered. “And a good thing too,” Archer said. “But yes, where the Dominion was able to strike into the heart of the Federation before, now they’ll be stuck on the outside. Starfleet Operations believes that we can prevent any major sortie into the Alpha Quadrant during this war by the Dominion fleet.” “So what’s the problem?” Daniel asked. “That sounds like good news.” “It’s only part of the story, that’s the problem,” Archer answered. “The Dominion is smart enough to know what I just told you. They knew that this would happen if they started another war, which means that they must have had other things in mind this time around.” “Changelings,” Daniel said with a frown. “Infiltration.” Archer nodded. “Bingo,” he said. “And it’s already begun. This war’s going to be different Daniel. Most of it will not be fought in space or in trenches on the surface of a world of major importance to one side or the other. Rather, it will be fought in the streets and at the highest levels of power in the Alpha Quadrant as every power tries to make sure that changelings do not infiltrate and take over major operations.” “Is that why the PATRIOT was recalled to EARTH?” Daniel asked. “To go after changelings?” “Yes,” Archer nodded again, turning to his brother-in-law. “But I can’t say more than that just yet. I’m briefing your Captain tomorrow on this very topic, so you’ll know soon enough what’s going on.” ========= NRPG: Just dropping a few more hints regarding the upcoming mission…it’s going to involve a counter-infiltration operation on the part of the PATRIOT, but the full details are still being fleshed out ;). You’ll know soon enough! ========= Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing… Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Gorman, MD Executive Officer USS PATRIOT & Major Daniel Clarkson, MD Marine Executive Officer USS PATRIOT No virus found in this outgoing message.
