Location: USS PATRIOT
Stardate: 2424 [2.8] 0323.2118
Scene: Main Bridge
Jeff was seated in the command chair of the USS PATRIOT, reviewing all of
the material that the away team had to read before taking off in the
runabout. While the PATRIOT’s Executive Officer was not explicitly required
to read the material, he felt that it would be a good idea to know at least
some of it in the event that they actually encountered these people at some
point. With the trip to the colony being rather uneventful, he used the
time to quickly skim over the information.
“Sir,” came the report from the helm officer. “We are now in orbit of the
Federation colony.”
“Good work,” Jeff said, putting down the PADD he’d been reading and standing
up out of the chair. “Hail the colony.”
“Aye sir,” came the reply from tactical and a few seconds later the image of
the planet was replaced by the image of one of the administrators of the
colony.
{{Good day to you sir,}} the man said, inclining his head slightly. {{My
name’s Dustin and I’m the acting head of this colony.}}
“Nice to meet you,” Jeff replied. “I am Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey
Gorman, First Officer of the USS PATRIOT.”
{{Ah yes of course, the PATRIOT,}} Dustin said, his face clearly reflecting
the recognition that was in his voice. {{We were briefed about your arrival
by Starfleet Intelligence less than a day ago and have been eagerly awaiting
your presence ever since.}}
“Have you had encounters with Farlasian ships?” Jeff asked.
{{We have not,}} Dustin replied. {{Although the scanners that we have down
here on the planet leave a lot to be desired. Your scanners on the PATRIOT
would likely be able to spot their ships well before ours on the planet
could.}}
“Our scans indicated the presence of no ships matching what Starfleet
Intelligence has given us as designs for Farlasian star vessels,” Jeff
answered. “And the last transmission back by the runabout did not indicate
any ships in the vicinity, which means that we can safely assume that the
ships have not been launched from the planet’s surface as of yet.”
Dustin let out a sigh of relief. {{Well, that’s certainly good news,}} he
said. {{Listen, Commander. Our colony is very new and we don’t even really
have a proper defence force. Even if these Farlasians of yours are
centuries behind us in technology, we would stand no chance against a
regiment of battle hardened ground forces armed with any kind of ranged
weapons, regardless of how antiquated they might be.}}
“The Federation understands that sir,” Jeff answered with a nod of his head.
“And that is why the PATRIOT has been dispatched to handle the situation.
We have a company of marines on board, many of which will be beaming down to
the surface to assist you in fortifying your position. However, a ground
battle is nothing more than a backup plan at this stage as we hope to stop
any invasion force before it comes anywhere close to your planet.”
Dustin nodded. {{Well,}} he said. {{All I can say is that I’m very glad
you’re here.}}
Jeff smiled. “Well, now that I’ve reassured you,” he replied. “We should
meet and discuss our tactical plans. I can beam down there with some of my
people if you would prefer to meet on the planet, or alternatively you can
beam up here with a delegation if you so choose.”
{{I’d prefer to have the meeting in my office, if it’s all the same to you
Commander,}} Dustin said.
Jeff nodded. “As you wish,” he said. “Have transport coordinates sent to
our ship so that I can beam down with the people that will be coordinating
the ground defence.”
