============= “Soldiers and Scientists” Continued from Taylor’s “119” ============= Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2424 [2.8] 0428.2336 Scene: Holodeck – Hall Main Stage Daniel paused against one of the railings to catch his breath. Just moments ago he had parted company with his wife, who had wanted to continue exploring the holodeck creation of the PATRIOT’s Counsellor. Daniel had managed to beg off further exploration for the moment by feigning fatigue and while Catherine had not been particularly convinced by the acting, for the moment she seemed satisfied with continuing her exploration alone. “Would you like a drink sir?” a man said, causing Daniel to turn and see someone holding out a glass with something that looked like wine or champagne in it. Thanking the man, Daniel took one of the two glasses, sipping from it and holding it in his hand while he continued leaning against one of the rails. “No thanks necessary sir,” the man replied, a smile on his face. “Always glad to help a veteran.” At that, Daniel turned to regard the man that had spoken and for the first time noticed that he must be a lot younger than Daniel had originally thought. The clothing made most of the first impression for Daniel, but upon closer inspection the marine surmised that the person he was talking to was probably under 20. “What makes you think I’m a veteran?” Daniel asked innocently, taking another sip from his drink. “The manner in which you were walking about a few moments ago when you were with your lady friend suggests that you are tired,” the other man answered. “And the way in which you carry yourself suggests a soldier’s bearing.” “Well,” Daniel answered. “I am a soldier; not a veteran though.” “A soldier in Her Majesty’s Royal Army?” the man asked. Clarkson smiled slightly. “No, I’m from the United States,” he answered. “Minnesota.” “Ah!” the man replied, clearly surprised despite Daniel’s complete lack of an English accent. “And you are here in England for the World’s Fair?” “That’s right,” Daniel said with a nod of his head. “I’m interested in taking a look at the new Vickers weapons.” The man brightened visibly at that. “I can show you where some are being displayed!” he said. “Come with me.” ================ Scene: Holodeck – Medical Area “Dr. Gorman, have a look at this,” one of the guides stated, guiding Jeff over to one of the displays. “It is a revolutionary concept in medicine that will completely change the way we doctors do business!” Jeff looked in the display and immediately recognized what he was looking at, but caught himself before saying anything out of character. “It looks interesting,” he said, pretending to be stymied. “What is it?” “This, my friend,” the guide answered proudly. “Is a machine capable of detecting electromagnetic radiation smaller than ten nanometres.” “No kidding!” Jeff answered with an impressed tone of voice. “And who came up with that?” “A doctor in Germany named Rontgen; we’re considering naming the whole range of wavelengths that he detected using this apparatus Rontgen rays,” the guide replied. “Well, this Rontgen must be a very smart fellow,” Jeff commented. “I’d bet that discovery’s worth a Nobel Prize!” The guide nodded. “I agree,” he said. ============ NRPG: Phew, finally managed to get one out. Apologies for my absence over the last week or two everyone; exam season has hit and things as usual have been more hectic than I planned for. I still have the log to send out for the previous mission (as of yet unwritten), but I’ll be holding that off until the end of this mission so as not to pull focus. In addition to that, I just wanted to say that if anyone was interested in running a mission like Naomi is doing right now, feel free to get in touch with Taylor or myself. We encourage full participation in that respect and would be happy to help you develop any ideas you might have into full blown mission concepts. ============ Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing… Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Gorman, MD Executive Officer USS PATRIOT & Major Daniel Clarkson, MD Marine Executive Officer USS PATRIOT No virus found in this outgoing message.
