" Holograms Amock."

Con't fom Beths "Imaging Things"

Location: USS PATRIOT

Stardate: 2424 [2.8] 0402.1524

Scene: Corridor

Kenta frowned for a moment, deep in thought. He rose onto his feet and
was jostled by the crowded area. "Follow me. Maverick, can you find a
couple of lanterns? Meet me outside the side entrance." He trusted the
colonel to keep out of trouble while Ben gestured for the rest of the
group to follow him. "We're going outside, where we can get some
privacy and a little peace to concentrate."

They followed Kenta as he ducked and wove and gently pushed through the
crowds, and finally out into the night sky.

"Oh my god, it is so hot in there." Catherine moaned in relief, taking
in several deep breaths of cold air.

The group lingered for a few moments, and presently Bret appeared
holding two wrought iron lanterns, with candles flickering behind
glass. "Thank you Colonel." Bret passed the other lantern onto
Clarkson and they walked out into the night.

Once they were tucked away behind a belt of trees, Kenta signalled them
to stop. "I suspect there's two ways out of here. First is to sit
tight and keep out of trouble. The simulation will end tomorrow
evening. That however will mean that we will have to contend with the
Invisible Man, and the rest of them." He began thoughtfully.

"Option two?" Gorman asked.

He grimaced. "Cause a life-threatening medical emergency. Which, for
obvious reasons, I would rather not do."

There was silence for a long moment.

"Do you think having the captain of the Flying Dutchman is going to
curse this ship?" Maverick grumbled under his breath.

"Only if you believe in curses and superstition." Tanith raised an
eyebrow. "We're on a holodeck, it's not even real."

"Like saying Macbeth in a theatre. It will curse the production."
Catherine quipped with a teasing grin. Did Maverick actually believe a
little in such things?

"Catherine, you look so feminine in that dress." Maverick shot back
with a scowl. Daniel stifled a laugh and Catherine had to resist the
urge to hurt him.

The night air was cold, despite the clothing they wore, it was beginning
to penetrate and make the meeting uncomfortable. It also illustrated an
important point, they couldn't spend much more time outside.

"I'm so sorry." Tam said softly. She felt terrible.

"Mistakes happen." Gorman gave the young counsellor a slight smile.
"What's the scope of this holoprogram?" He asked curiously. If there
was a town or city nearby, it might be worth the while walking there.
It would at least get them out of possible harm's way.

"Crystal Palace set in gardens. That's it." She replied helplessly.

Tanith rolled her eyes. "We can't even get away from here, find a nice
quiet house and bunker down." She frowned.

"It was only meant to be a day trip."

Maverick sighed and changed the heavy lantern to the other hand. He
glanced around in the darkness, despite his night vision being
non-existent at the moment. He couldn't shake the feeling they were
being watched. "Well, it's now a day, night and a day trip." He
asked. "Question is, is it safer out here or back in there?"

"Out here, we can see anyone coming, with the exception of our invisible
friend. In there, it's harder given the crowds." Clarkson replied.
"Thing is, we stay here and we'll freeze."

Ben and Catherine exchanged a glance. "Definitely don't want to do that
again." Sterling replied vehemently.

Maverick pointed up at the night sky. "Need I remind people we have
Dracs here." He said. They weren't necessarily safe being outside.
"Guy turns into a bat."

"Then maybe a question to ask is: do we kill them to protect
ourselves?" Sterling suggested.

Tanith snorted her disgust at the idea. "Trust you to come up with
that." She replied.

Kenta shook his head, he didn't even want them to consider it a viable
option. "So far, they haven't attacked anyone, and maybe they won't.
They're just literary characters having a good time." He replied.

"Well, just in case, I borrowed one of these..." Maverick reached
behind him and pulled out a Colt revolver, one of the first guns
developed that wasn't a muzzle load, or flash pan weapon. It was also
the time before weapon safeties had been development. It was also loaded.

"Colonel." Kenta groaned softly.

Gorman glanced over at the Palace on the opposite hill. "If we can find
a storeroom or office in the building? We could use that. It'll save
us from freezing tonight." He suggested. While the Palace itself was
totally enclosed in glass, he was hoping that there were underground
rooms that would afford them privacy and protection.

"Let's see what we can find."

NRPG: Hi guys. Sorry, I've been pretty much flat out in the previous
week or so, so please excuse my tardiness. In fact, this entire month
for me is going to be utterly crazy. I'll try and keep up, but no promises.
