Tanith sighed audibly for the umpteenth time since her shift began.
Ben knew exactly how she felt. They had been waiting in this position
for over 12 hours, and there wasn't exactly much to pass the time.
They were cloaked and nestled inside the sensor dampening field
generated by their two PHANTOM class companions. All three were at
yellow alert, and synchronized to jump to maximum transwarp with the
push of a single button from the PATRIOT's Helm. Everyone was on
edge. The majority of the crew didn't know what exactly was going on,
but it wasn't difficult to tell that it was something big. And it
might be 10 minutes of 10 years before they got the go ahead.

Ben stifled a yawn and almost sighed himself, but he nearly jumped to
his feet when he a console beeped behind him.

"Incoming message, Sir." Vasquez announced from the tactical console
as all eyes turned toward him. His voice betrayed a nervous
excitement. "Unknown location, text only."

"What does it say, Ensign?" Ben asked, already knowing the answer.

"Marathon." The young officer answered, forgetting to add 'sir.'
Under different circumstances Ben would have chastised him calmly,
but now there wasn't time.

"Send 'Eon Green' back on the same channel, and set us to red alert."
He ordered turning to face forward. "Helm, engage."

*Now it begins*

"Wait for it...Now."

Tanith responded by gliding slowly into the freighters wake. Eon
group had travelled to BAJOR all the way from EARTH without fear of
being detected, but a wormhole opening would be noticed, even if no
ships passed through. So they had been forced to wait until they
could follow another ship through. Tanith was effectively steering
all three ships, since the others were set to match the PATRIOT's
movements exactly. She needed to follow closely. If the wormhole
stayed open too long after the freighter exited the monitoring
stations would notice it. That might not be so bad in itself, but it
would generate a report. One that might be read by a changeling.

"We're clear." She announced, as they burst out from the wormhole.

"Well done, Lt." Ben replied, watching the wormhole collapse behind
them. It reminded him of GATEWAY, and of it's commanding officer.
"Set a course for the HIGA system, warp 2."

If they made it back from this alive, GATEWAY was where they would
get their new orders. If they made it back he would explain his
behavior to Daisy. If.

As they emerged from the transwarp conduit Ben imagined he could feel
the ship slowing down, though he knew it was impossible. "Corwin, get
us in range of that array, maximum impulse." Ben knew the other two
ships were already breaking off to engage the 7 Jem'Hadar attack
ships defending the array, two of which were directly in their path.
"Mr. Vasquez, clear her a path."

Phasers lanced out towards the closest ship, destroying it before it
had a chance to raise its shields. The second turned and aimed a few
blasts of it's own. The bridge rocked with the impact, but the shields held.

"Return fire."

NRPG: Alright guys, the operation is officially kicked off. We're
going to spend the next month and a half or so writing about events
that take place in about 10 minutes. That's different than anything
we've done before, so in order to make things go smoothly I've come
up with a few ideas.

First is the time index. Please include this in every scene with a
code like the ones I've used here. Marathon +0:00 is the moment the
operation begins, so +0:04 is four seconds after that, and -0:20 is
twenty seconds before. This should allow people to write posts that
overlap, or take place before the last post without it getting confusing.

I also want people to feel like the action is leaving them behind.
There are five arrays, we're going to spend a week at each one. I've
just kicked off the first one, and we'll be jumping to the next one
next weekend. I'd like one of you to write each of the jumps so
everyone gets a chance to advance the plot, so let me know if some
weekends are bad for you (Don't worry about getting the post out on a
specific day, anytime on the weekend will do). After everyone gets
back to me I'll send out an NRPG with who will be responsible for each jump.

In the meantime anyone can post whatever they want as long as you don't:
Destroy the ship, or kill off a PC other than your own (unless you
have permission).
Destroy an array unless it's your turn to write the jump, or the
Patriot has already jumped past it.

If you're stuck for what to write feel free to re-write a scene
someone else wrote from your characters perspective. Also don't be
afraid to flashback, as long as you use the Time Index. And, as
always, If you need inspiration feel free to contact Rahul or I for ideas.
