========= “Scheduled Jump” Continued from Naomi’s “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” ========= Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2422 [2.8] 0617.0042 Scene: Main Bridge Time Index: Marathon +1:00 “The shields of the array are beginning to buckle sir!” came the report from the operations console. “A few more hits and we should be able to start damaging the inner structure of the installation.” “Sir!” hollered Vasquez from the tactical station. “Two Jem’Hadar warships bearing 105 mark 200. They’re attempting to get in between us and the installation.” “Time to next jump?” Ben asked, struggling to stay on his feet as another blast of phased energy struck the ship and the view screen momentarily flickered. “50 seconds to the two minute mark sir,” came the report from the operations console. “We need 35 seconds to deploy the fighters,” Jeff said from his seat in the ExO’s chair, reminding Ben of plan B whilst simultaneously reminding the Commanding Officer that with so little time to prepare, they hadn’t been able to shave deployment time all the way down to the 30 seconds that Kenta has specified. Captain Kenta grunted his acknowledgement of the statement, before turning around to view the screen. Leaving fighters was a last ditch act of desperation that he did not want to sanction just yet. “Ensign Vasquez,” he ordered. “Reroute all auxiliary power to phasers and fire them in a concentrated pattern on the array. I want that thing destroyed in the next ten seconds.” “Yes sir,” came the reply from tactical as the officer’s hands flew across the console. ============ Location: SPACE Scene: Battle around Array #1 A series of brilliant flashes shot forward from the PATRIOT in the direction of the array. The phasers were more brilliant than the normal blasts, likely because of the extra energy that had been funnelled into this particular volley. The first few blasts sparkled magnificently as they impacted against the shields of the array, but then one of the blasts made it all the way through to the metallic structure of the installation, having finally drained the full amount of the array’s shields. A full spread of torpedoes followed the phaser blasts, each one being aimed at a particularly vulnerable part of the array’s power systems. Explosions started occurring all over the array, at first created by the impact of the torpedoes and then later created by a series of energetic chain reactions within the power system and eventually the core of the array. Eventually, the explosions built up to the point where one large explosion engulfed the array, blinding the participants in the dogfight just in front of it momentarily with the brightness of the blast. When the dust had settled, the array was nowhere to be seen. =========== Location: USS PATRIOT Scene: Main Bridge “Excellent shooting Ensign,” Ben said, settling down into his seat and letting out a breath that he didn’t even realize he’d been holding. “Helm, notify the other two EON points that we will be moving out in five seconds and then make the arrangements for the jumps.” “Aye sir,” replied Tanith, her fingers deftly racing across the console in an attempt to keep up with the Captain’s orders. “Gorman to Maverick,” Jeff said, tapping a button on his arm console. “What’s your status?” [[All three away teams assigned to the first ground installation are in place and ready to go,]] reported Maverick. [[Myself, Major Clarkson and Lieutenant Morris will be in charge of the three respective teams, all of which are ready to beam down to a different part of the installation.]] “Be ready for instructions within the next two minutes,” Jeff instructed, before closing the comm. link and looking over at his Commanding Officer. “Looks like we’re ready to go.” Ben nodded. “Lieutenant Corwin,” he said. “Initiate the next jump.” ========== NRPG: Okay, so the PATRIOT and the two PHANTOM ships have managed to destroy the first array and have initiated their jump towards the second! This brings us to the close of the first phase of the mission and we’ll have about a week’s time to explore the second phase. As per Naomi’s post, the second array is a ground-based installation, which means that if the PATRIOT can’t destroy it in time, they’ll be beaming down marines before taking off to their next target. The marines will be beaming down in away teams to three separate parts of the installation, with Maverick, Clarkson and Morris (a pNPC) in charge of each of the teams respectively. The other ground forces will come into play later on. So, basically the deal is the same as it was when Erik posted us to the first array. Feel free to write posts detailing anything you want in terms of the dogfight around the array and the possible beaming in of the marines if time constraints are too much to deal with for the PATRIOT’s crew. Just make sure that you don’t destroy the array unless it’s your turn to write the actual jump to the next one. That’s everything I can think of for the moment. Feel free to shoot any questions the way of Erik or I. ========== Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Writing for… Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Gorman, MD Executive Officer USS PATRIOT & Major Daniel Clarkson, MD Marine Executive Officer USS PATRIOT No virus found in this outgoing message.
