========== “Upper Hand” Continued from Bethany’s “Illuminations?” ========== Location: DOMINION ARRAY Stardate: 2424 [2.8] 0705.2330 Scene: Corridors Time Index: Marathon +3:55 Daniel stood up from his ministrations just as the other three marines in his team came back from their scouting expedition. From the looks on their faces, he gathered that the situation was looking pretty grim. “It’s not looking good Major,” Sergeant Crunk reported, speaking for the group of three. “We still don’t have use of the tricorders, but we were able to visually make contact with at least three Jem’Hadar soldiers down one of the corridors. The other corridor leads to a dead end, so it looks like the only way we go forward is through the Jem’Hadar soldiers.” “And they know we’re here,” Corporal Jarvin added. “They’re taking great care to stay far enough away from each other that we can’t get them with a surprise grenade. Even a perfectly placed one need something of a minor miracle to get more than one of them.” Daniel shook his head, momentarily at a loss for what to do. He looked down at the wounded Catian Private, who for the moment was unconscious. “He’s not fit to move anywhere at the moment,” Clarkson commented idly. “Although assuming we get beamed out to the ship within the next half hour, he shouldn’t sustain any permanent damage.” “It would be safest if we left him here,” Private Parker suggested. “There’s only one corridor behind him, leading to the dead end we beamed into. We have no clue what’s ahead of us and he could get hurt a lot worse in the next firefight if he’s moving slow as a result of the first injury.” Daniel nodded. “Agreed,” he said. “But with a little twist. Crunk and Jarvin will be staying with him.” “Sir?” the Sergeant asked, confused by the order. “Parker and I will engage the Jem’Hadar,” Daniel said. “And we need a plan B in case that doesn’t work. I want you to stay here with B’R’Ik and if you don’t hear from me within the next minute, formulate the second attack. The Jem’Hadar won’t expect us to split up and try to take them separately, so what makes our attack harder will ultimately make yours easier if it comes to that.” “Aye sir,” Crunk said, not particularly liking the plan but sensing that arguing with the Major wouldn’t get very far. “Let’s go Private,” Daniel said, hefting his extremely heavy pack, picking up his rifle and walking down the corridor. After a moment’s hesitation, Parker quickly hurried after him. “The Jem’Hadar should be around this corner,” Parker whispered. After a few more steps towards the corner, Daniel signalled a stop. Slowly looking around the corner, Daniel was able to spot the three Jem’Hadar soldiers that the marines had picked up earlier. As silently as possible, Daniel placed his rifle on the floor, drawing his two hand pistols as he stood up again. He took another quick look around the corner, before looking over at Parker who had taken up a vantage point width-wise across the corridor. Daniel silently mouthed a countdown, with Parker quickly nodding his understanding. On a pre-arranged signal, the two marines swiftly turned around the corridor, unloading phased energy fire in the direction of all three soldiers. While it wasn’t as efficient as a single grenade blast, a few shots from each weapon were enough to take out the Jem’Hadar before they knew what hit them. Breathing a sigh of relief, Daniel holstered the pistols and picked up his rifle before tapping his comm. badge. “Clarkson to Crunk. We’ve neutralized the guards and are about to start scouting ahead. Maintain your current position until you hear from me again.” [[Acknowledged sir,]] came the reply from the Sergeant. “Hopefully we’ll run into a control room soon,” Daniel said, sneaking a peak at the timer he had running on his rifle. “We’re running out of time.” ========= NRPG: Just a little something.
