"Peacekeeping"
continued from
"Downtime"

Location: USS PATRIOT
Stardate: 2.80825.1603
Scene: MOC

"First off," Gorman began when everyone had arrived. "We've had some
personnel changes. Ensigns Dugan and Suvak have been reassigned.
Ensign Song is our new CEO," he indicated the black haired woman in
Suvak's old seat, "and Ensign Tam will be taking over the Medical
department." He turned to the Bajoran officer and added. "Due to a
shortage of qualified personnel we don't have a replacement for your
old job yet. The rest of the staff can handle the ship's counselling
needs, but you'll need to continue handling the department's
administrative needs until Fleet sends us a new CNS.

"Understood, sir." She replied dutifully, silently dreading the fact
that her paperwork load had just doubled.

"Captain." Gorman said, indicating he was finished.

Kenta nodded. "First off I'd like to report that Starfleet Command
considers Marathon and our part in it a huge success. The entire
Federation is grateful for your efforts. I tried to convince the
admiralty to give us extra shore leave, but they apparently weren't
that grateful." The joke seemed out of character for the usually
austere captain, but most of the senior staff laughed anyway, if only
out of courtesy. "We are getting a bit of a break though," he
continued. "We've been rotated out of front line duty."

No one in the room had ever balked at doing their part for the war
effort, but the PATRIOT had so far been involved in both of the
engagements with the highest casualty rates of the war. No one felt
bad about taking the back seat for awhile.

Kenta tapped a few buttons in front of his chair and the table
projected a holographic map. "This is the IRATHI system." he began.
"It was one of the first we liberated from dominion troops. It has
two inhabited worlds, the third and fourth planets, as well as a
colony on the largest moon of the seventh. The government has
formally surrendered, and is cooperative to the Federation, but a
large portion of the population is in open rebellion, and the
government has requested help in suppressing it. The Dominion
suppresses military technology among it's citizens, and the
resistance groups have no military training, so a relatively small
Starfleet force should suffice to quell the rebellion if it comes to
open battle, but Command is hoping the presence of a warship of the
PATRIOT's caliber will be enough to convince most of the groups to surrender."

Ben turned off the display and continued. "This will be predominately
a goodwill mission. We'll be bringing a small diplomatic team along,
and Commander Gorman will lead an away team responsible for medical
relief and infrastructure repair." he turned to Maverick. "Colonel,
your marines will be responsible for the security of both teams, but
they are not to engage any insurgent cells except to defend
Federation personnel."

"Understood." He replied.

"Meanwhile, there will be work to do on the ship as well." He turned
to the new engineer. "I'm afraid you've got your work cut out for
you. The starbases engineers didn't get a chance to do much work
since our last mission, so your staff will need to complete the
repairs from the last mission. The transwarp drive is still
completely offline, and that will be your top priority."

"Yes, sir." Meera answered. In a perfect world she would have had
some time to get familiar with the ship and staff before undergoing
major repairs, but she was confident she was up to the challenge.

"We'll be leaving in one hour. Dismissed."

NRPG: A little terse, but I've been very busy the last few days. The
bright side is that my computer is finally fixed. This mission is
pretty free form, though I'm sure it won't stay as clear cut as it
seems. Anyone who wants can post us arriving at the system and
getting started, and don't be shy about introducing a problem I
haven't alluded to, and as always if you have time to post, but are
stuck for ideas don't hesitate to talk ask Rahul or I for ideas.
Lastly, I'd like to formally welcome Ran to the PATRIOT. The bio for
her character Meera Song is up on the website.
