Scene: Counselor’s Offices

"So do I pass?" Kiros asked, unsure right now how to approach the
ship’s Counselor. He was still wheeling from the whirlwind
conversations he’d been subjected to by the counselor. From what he
could ascertain the entire ship was full of mentally unstable
individuals.

Phia shook her head. "No." Looking up at him she said, "We never
spoke about you, not really. We spoke about me, and while
that's...well that's something it was not the purpose of this
meeting."

“Ok.. let’s start then with my youth. I was born on the USS Vanguard
and spent my entire youth aboard that ship. My father is their Chief
Medical Officer and my mother is a counselor on the ship. I had a
healthy and happy life and was raised to appreciate Starfleet and it’s
mission. In fact my parents assumed I would follow in their footsteps
and take up a profession in the medical field, which I almost did.”

“So why did you take up Engineering?” Phia asked.

“I actually took up the Science’s first and studied Astro-physics, but
it was after reading about my previous host that I decided to take up
theoretical propulsion. She was a scientist and had completed a great
deal of research into the creation of artificial wormholes and
transwarp conduits. I promised myself that I would give the symbiont
completion... She never finished her research. Instead she became a
Starfleet Captain and subsequently a Federation Ambassador working
with the Borg. That was everything that I could find out about her,
and since I can’t communicate with my symbiont I can’t access her
memories. I don’t know what happened over the last five years of her
life. I don’t know anything about her death except that it involved
the symbiont suffering from a near-fatal electrical discharge that
shorted it’s ability to communicate with my neurological system.”

“So you feel alone... incomplete...” Phia offered.

“I guess you could say that, I thought I had found my better half with
Myren, but he was assigned to the USS BUDAPEST after the Academy, a
security officer.”

“Why didn’t you try to transfer to that ship as well?” Phia asked as
she jotted something down on her PADD.

“Because we each of our separate careers... we have to establish who
we are as individuals before we can worry about us as a couple.” Kiros
stated softly.

“A mature outlook, if a little unrealistic...” Phia remarked off-
handedly.

“I don’t think it is unrealistic... If we’re meant to be together then
our paths will cross again...”

“How romantic,” the ship’s counselor returned with a degree of sarcasm
that Kiros hadn’t anticipated.

“You wanted to know who I am, well that romanticism is part of it.”

“So why major in nanotechnology?”

“It is the future of technology. I guess so that I can complete
surgery on the ship. It always amazed me when my father used this tiny
microscopic robots to repair organs and skin. I guess I didn’t really
leave the medical field behind, just applied it to larger creatures,”
Kiros replied gesturing around himself to the bulkheads.

“Interesting point-of-view.”

“We all have our own view points that are tinged by our pasts. I tend
to look at things from the scientific point-of-view, from the logical
point-of-view.”

“Which would be a direct contradiction with the romanticism you
adhered to before.”

“Love isn’t logical counselor,” Kiros returned.

Kiros sat his hand on the image of his partner that he had placed on
the shelf beside his bed. “I love you, Myren...”

Replacing the image and lifting a small earring the engineer moved
toward his desk. “Computer, messages?”

{{You have one new message...}} the computers monotone voice returned.

“On screen,” Kiros asked as he slid into the seat and saw the face of
his partner on the screen.

[[Kiros, I’m sorry I missed you... I needed to warn you... Don’t do
anything drastic, I think that he is after us... Teva has gone missing
and M’Rex is dead...]]

“My god,” Kiros whispered.

[[I can’t explain this over an open com. I’ll contact you when it is
safe, but stay below the radar... I love you...]]

Kiros’ brow arched as he placed the earring on the desk.

Location: NOCTURIA
Scene: Laboratory

“Thomas, could you please hand me the hyerspanner,” Kiros asked the
Science Officer as he knelt before the alien panel and unlatched it
revealing it’s internal circuitry. He opened his case and pulled out a
tricorder as he extended his hand taking the device from the other
officer. “This is going to take me a couple hours to figure out
Thomas, so if you need to I’d suggest reviewing the information
they’ve given us on the meteor.”

“I agree,” Varn replied as he sood before another panel and pulled up
the information on the lab’s screen. “Let me know if you need any help.”

The pair worked in silence for several minutes before Kiros broke the
silence, “So Thomas tell me a little about yourself...”

NRPG: Not much movement forward put a little more on the character and
an opening for Justin to move forward...
