"Meteor complications"

(Cont'd from "A question of honour")

Location: NOCTURINA

Scene: Bogozh

Stardate: 2.70115.1122

Izshlana stretched her hand a little as Phia finished healing the burns.
"So, I hate to ask this Captain… how often does it rain on Bogozh?"

Rharn Aldeco stared for a moment and then shook her bright hair. "Let's
move."

Izshlana swallowed a lump in her throat and Phia gave her a small smile.
"Ready for taking on the rain and exploding rocks?" the counsellor teased.

"Even I don't think I can fight nature." Izzy muttered softly.

"Well that's a relief." Peter answered as he followed Rharns already
retreating back. "Come on, we need to keep together."

Izzy suddenly tugged at her cape. "Wait, never mind the rain; what's going
to happen if there's a dust storm?"

"Well the rocks react to water, not dust." Kiros explained patiently.

"And there's no water in the air when little bits of these rocks suddenly
get picked up and thrown around?" Izzy's voice took on a note of urgency.

Phia gave a little smile as she looked at her friend. "Can I slap her?" she
asked Peter. The Brit raised an eyebrow.

"No," he said definitely.

"But that was hysteria; I'm certain I noticed it in her voice." She pointed
out with pleasure.

"If you slap me I'll hit you back." Izzy's voice came across with that low
ominous growl. Phia smiled pleasantly back at her friend.

"Captain!" Kiros's voice echoed across the rocky desert landscape and
brought Aldeco to a halt. Cadet Karn was looking to the sky, the captain
turned; her eyes drifting up as one by one the away team member's eyes
followed the engineers gaze.

A pale streak of light broke the dark sky as a fragment of meteor reflected
the NOCTURINA's moons light. Smaller lights followed it streaking through
the atmosphere.

Peter and Kiros, a tricorder in hand each, dropped their gazes and stared at
the readouts trying desperately to increase the range of the scans.

"What happens if…" Izzy never finished the question as Phia smacked her in
the side of the head.

"Just don't ask." The Bolian/Vulcan snapped.

Peter spoke up suddenly. "We need to take cover Captain, we can rely on some
of them being broken up by the atmosphere but certainly not the larger
ones."

Rharns eyes gazed around her in concern; Bast the little rodent dropped to
the ground and began sniffing around at the rocks. "What will happen if a
meteor fragment hits these rocks." She asked her eyes turning to the
engineer and her XO.

The Cadet swallowed which was answer enough for the Security Officer. "You
said we were close to the Pleo residence, surely they'd have thought about
this and built defences." She suggested.

"We'd have to get there before the meteor collided." Karn spoke urgently,
"And we just don't have the time."

"Could I suggest that we just move then?" Phia urged, "Standing here won't
help us and there's no cover of note."

Bast gave a little squeak and darted off Peter watched him for a second and
then shrugged, "Well you know what they say, follow the rats." The group
began hurrying after the small rodent.

Rharn was quiet for a moment and then muttered, "He's not a rat."

Location: USS STONEHENGE

Scene: Bridge

Pol'gra was currently in charge of the USS STONEHENGE, she had watched
closely as the science department had blown apart the meteor that had been
heading to NOCTURIA, so far so good until Landwyn spoke up from his place at
the tactical console.

"We still have a few fragments heading to NOCTURIA, most seem to be heading
for unpopulated areas." He informed her as he watched the area of space
intently. "Nothing large enough to cause an issue."

"Most?" The El'Aurian asked in a soft calming tone as she turned around in
her seat.

He nodded watching projected trajectories. "A few are aiming towards the
area the away team declared they were heading into." He paused and shifted
scans and then raised an eyebrow.

"Erm, Pol, slight problem." Something about his tone made the older woman
stand up and turn around. She took a few steps while he continued speaking.
"There's no sign of the away team."

She ended up behind the Operations console, her hands flying while she
looked at the same scans that Landwyn was currently poring over.
"Transporter systems can't get a lock." She confirmed still sounding far too
calm for Landwyn's liking.

"When was the last confirmed sighting?" he asked.

"As they entered the area they thought Aerdan was." Pol'gra answered.

The officer at science turned in her seat. "It looks as though something in
the land in that area is interfering with scans and communications." She
offered up.

Pol'gra nodded in agreement. "I'll send a message to the eldest one, maybe
herim can send them some help."

Landwyn's eyes narrowed and he scowled in annoyance but nodded the once and
turned the scans back to the meteor fragments and their travels, watching
and wondering if he could fire on any of them if it looked like the
atmosphere wouldn't break the small rocks up.

*************

NRPG: I'm sorry I'm kind of stuck on the Pleo story line and Justin seemed
to finish the meteor one so I just thought I'd give us a reason not to
linger outside.
