“Two by two.” (Contd-“He should have read the
handbook.”)

Legions of Terror to attack the hero en masse, instead
of standing around waiting while members break off and
attack one or two at a time.)

Several times as they travelled Peter and Kiros
encountered Nocturians and each time the pair had left
stunned bodies sat to the side of the corridor, of
course if they were approached from behind then their
pursuers would know they were up ahead somewhere, but
now that they had the freedom and luxery for it Peter
wasn't inclined to use a higher phaser setting.

He had no compulsion against killing, he had done so
many times, but only when needed, he killed when there
was no other way to do it without extreme risk, not
because it was easier.

Of course for some unknown reason the Nocturians were
making it easy and only sending their people down a
few at a time. Perhaps they were regular patrols but
surely there was a way they kept in touch with the
central area, surely someone would have noticed
something wrong by now, even in this back corridor.

The only other thing Peter could think of was that
they were occupied by something else, the Captain and
the others maybe?

What ever the reason Peter and Kiros made rapid
progress until they found their way barred by a large
metal door.

The control panel appeared to require some sort of
key, which obviously they didnt have, rather than
turning back to find the last few Nocturians they had
stunned the first thing the engineers did was pry off
the control panel next to the door, unfortunatly the
circuitry was quite different to that they were used
to and neither of them were entirely sure where to
start their exploration of the systems.

"It occurs to me sir, that we have gone straight to
trying to use our skills when there is an easier way
to do this." Said Kiros.

"Go on Cadet." Said Peter, quite sure the young man
was right, something was nagging peter at the back of
his mind, he just hadn’t pinned it down.

"We have encountered frequent small groups of the
Nocturians, they have to be coming from somewhere, so
sooner or later the door should open to let more out,
we just have to wait.

Peter tried to hide his char grin, clearly he was over
thinking at the moment.

Scene: Alcedo citadel * Bridge

Matthew and his team of security officers were still
in the Alcedo citadel. The Eldar has spoken to them a
few times in between being called here and there and a
number of other Alcedo had too but essentially they
were left alone.

Pol’Gra had been in touch several times keeping them
up to date but had ordered them not to follow the
others when they had lost communication. It rankled
all of them but still they were not just dumb muscle
and they knew the wisdom of the order. Unfortunately
it meant they were now just pacing the floor.

Finally Matthew had enough and after apologising
politely to the Elder, Peter having rubbed off on him
enough that he sounded particular verbose, Matthew
ordered a beam out for the team.

While his security officers went back to the armoury
to relieve themselves of their weaponry Matthew headed
straight for the bridge where he knew Pol’Gra would
want to know of his return.

As it turned out she was stood at the tactical station
next to Ardy when he stepped off the turbolift and the
pair both turned to him as he approached.

“We were doing no good down there, and something hit
me anyway.” Began Matthew. “If their communications
are out then they are either going to have to return
through that hell hole in which case they can be
beamed out as soon as they are clear or call for
extraction in some other way.”

“Call for extraction without communications?” Queried
Pol’Gra.

“Peter?” Asked Ardy.

Matthew managed a tight smile, “He can communicate
with the ULYSSES despite this interference, at least
he can unless they also have a way to block telepathic
fields.”

Pol’Gra nodded in understanding, “Ok, well I suggest
we have a couple of security officers on the ULYSSES
at all times then, we can provide additional support
if he does call for the ship.”

Matthew smiled and nodded, it may not be something he
could do that would relieve his anxiety but at least
it felt like helping in a small way.

have their own special operating system that will be
completely incompatible with standard IBM and
Macintosh powerbooks)

Their waiting didn’t require too much patience, soon
enough a pair of Nocturians opened the door and
stepped through, to be met by the quick phaser blasts
from he two Starfleet officers who quickly dashed
threw the still open door, weapons at the ready.

A single massive trunk of rock dominated the centre of
the huge room they found themselves in; and to the
engineers it was obvious why, clustered around the
rock column and spreading further and further around
the room were a collection of energy cells, they were
harvesting the energy from the rocks above, and from
the coruscating power around the column the meteor
strikes must still be happening, either that or there
was a rainstorm.

On the other side of the room by a bank of controls
several Nocturians noticed them and ran.

“We better hurry, no doubt they are going to tell
someone we are here.” Pointed out Peter and he began
to move round the clear path along the outer edge of
the room.

As they neared the controls though Kiros slowed down,
“That looks like a pretty standard computer terminal.”
He mused as he stepped closer.

Peter moved back to join him, he still felt they
needed to get out of here but so far the Cadet was
showing the reasons he had been sent out here, he was
good, very good.

Kiros had his tricorder in his hand by the time Peter
stopped next to him and mere moments later he looked
at the Commander and grinned, “I’m in.”
