“Thanks and blame” (contd-“Reconnecting”)

Location: NOCTURIA
Scene: Pleo complex
Stardate: [2.8]0131.2124

"We need to get out of here and fast." Rharn declared
cutting through any conversation that was about to
start, the Captain seemed tense.

"I can get help if we can get to the surface." Peter
told them confidently.

The group looked at the stairs and imagined the entire
Pleo clan currently arming themselves or at least
would be very soon when they realised that their
leader was missing.

"You need to be on the surface?" Phia said
disbelievingly.

Peter smiled slightly and shook his head, "No,
transport is already on the way just it's not the best
idea to be beamed through rock, especially manipulated
rock that explodes when it rains." The Brit tried to
hide his exasperation.

Izshlana glared at the captives, "well we need to pick
up Zippy on the way."

Rharn glanced at Peter, "What's this transport?"

"The ULYSSES." The XO answered in explanation, "She's
on her way, she can beam us out and then beam us to
the hatchery."

The Captain nodded and her eyes turned to the other
crew. "Lead on then."

Izshlana nodded her hand fingering her phaser as she
started to move off. "I'll go first." She forced out
between gritted teeth. A moment later she felt someone
next to her glancing sideways she found the Andorian
doctor, they shared a brief look and then without
speaking began the slow climb up stairs to the
surface.

Location: ULYSSES
Scene: Cockpit

After a few close shaves and some scuffles with the
NOCTURIANS they arrived on the surface and as soon as
it was safe the away team plus three were enveloped in
a blue haze of the transporter beams.

Mathew greeted them with a smile of relief, once he
was sure Peter was safe he looked over the other crew.
Turning to Izzy he raised an eyebrow. "Landwyn?" She
shrugged and then turned to Zipo and Thal Pleo finding
something to restrain them with. Aerdan found another
med kit and the replicator and began to look more
closely at both his and T'nennet’s injuries.

Rharn approached Mathew. "We need a beam down to the
Alcedo citidal, the eldest needs to know what's been
going on."

Mathew nodded and slightly bemused began to arrange
for the shuttle to move to a better place to conduct
the beamdown. Aerdan looked up from where he was
working on T’nnent being sure the young NOCTURIAN was
stable, "Have Cade and Arjan finished with the delta
radiation serum?"

Mathew shrugged, "I've been waiting for Peter to
contact the ULYSSES." He admitted calmly, "I can beam
you down now." The second part he offered to Rharn.

"Let me get the serum transported." The CMO suggested
already rising to his feet.

Rharn nodded indicating the console next to herim and
then looked at Izzy, "Prepare them for transporting
down with us."

Izzies eyes betrayed her disgust at the thought but
she lugged the men up with the help of Peter and the
security team.

Aerdan nodded once Cade's face had replaced the
Starfleet logo, without anything of an introduction
the Andorian asked. "How's the serum coming?"

[[We've done about 500 of the 700 you asked for.]]
Cade bit back, betraying nothing of what he'd seen on
the fedcom report just minutes earlier.

"Good, prepare them for transport, we need them at the
hatchery."

Mockingly the civilian doctor whipped off a salute
gaining a glare from the second officer of the USS
STONEHENGE before he cut the link.

"Are you ready then?" Rharn asked softly. She helped
T’nnent up, neither exchanging a word as they stepped
onto the transporter and Aerdan followed them.

"Energise." Rharn ordered.

Scene: Alcedo Citadel -> Meeting room.

Izshlana had excused herself when she realised the
talks may go on for a while, the Elder Alcedo had
called the elders of all the clans to her, the
exposition was going to be long, starting with the
'outing' of Rharn and T'nnent and then discussing what
the Pleos had been doing.

The Alterian stood in an atrium staring up at a glass
ceiling. "Is everything OK?"

She jumped and turned at the interruption recognising
the Nocturian stepping up to her as a vaguely familiar
Alcedo. "Yes, fine." She responded harsher than she
meant to at the question.

The Alcedo seemed to take a deep breath, "we noticed
an explosion in the Bogozh, once the rain stopped some
of us went to investigate."

Izzy's heart started hammering in her throat his next
words were almost drowned out by her own head begging
that everything had been ok. "We found a Hem'Blach
walking around, we've found him a herd and he seems
happy there, but of course with your link, you could
take him."

Izshlana blinked and shook his head, "No, Prancer
should be with his own kind, it's not fair to cage an
animal in mettle."

"We found this to." Herim said and opened heris hand
to show a Starfleet communications device. "We thought
that with the Hem'blachs link to you maybe this was
yours."

The small woman reached out and the NOCTURIAN placed
the comm in her hand. "You saw no one else out there?"

"No one, should there have been?"

She shook her head, "No, thank you." The young Alcedo
nodded and turned away. As she stood alone her hand
closed over the comm badge. After a second she moved
placing it in her trousers pocket she turned and
headed back into the fray.

Stepping into the meeting room was like stepping into
the middle of a fight, she was assaulted from all
sides at the noise, seeing her friends at one end of
the table she went back to sit with them.

"How do we know that this is meant to happen?" Someone
yelled.

The Alcedo Elder finally called for silence, "listen
to the Starfleet doctor." Hush fell and all eyes
twisted to Aerdan who stood up slowly.

"The scans that we did showed that the hatchery and
eggs had been subjected to delta radiation, which is
why they were dying." Finally the doctor said what had
been on his mind, "We can supply you with serum, it
will save the eggs currently in the hatchery. The
source of the radiation has been neutralised now so
you should have no more problems from subsequent
hatchings.”

“And what has this to do with the change? Have you
brought this on us with your ‘cure’?” Shouted someone.

“No, it was not us, have your own doctors check our
findings, this process is happening anyway, it has
been accelerated by damage to your atmosphere by the
asteroid, but it is natural.”

“It was you people that sent those asteroid pieces in
to our atmosphere, so it was you !” Shouted someone
else.

“These people saved our world from certain
destruction, are we to repay them with accusation such
as this?” Asked the Elder Alcedo of the crowd.

“We never asked for their help, perhaps this is all an
Alcedo plan? You asked them here, and look at two of
your own; abominations of the Nocturian people!”
shouted someone.

Detecting another riot in the making Rharn stepped
forwards, “It matter not if there is anyone to blame,
there is no choice now, this is happening. So either
we can have no hatchlings and face the extermination
of our species," Rharn said as eyes shifted back to
herim. "Or we can accept the evolution and continued
development of our people."

The crowd was quiet as the clan Eldars all filed out
to a more intimate meeting.

One by one the Starfleet officers filed out of the
meeting hall towards the Hatchery. Rharn was last and
took one last glance as the confusion of emotional
faces around the room before ducking out to follow
heris officers.

Scene: Hatchery

Aerdan stared at the eggs as though glaring at them
would make them hatch any faster or healthier.

Kiros was helping the doctor to monitor the systems
the cadet looked tired after everything he had been
through this mission, although a small modum of energy
was hidden, he still had his rocks to experiment on
and the NOCTURIAN's had given him permission to take
them along with the Pleo research as a thank you for
helping them. So his ability to conduct this great
research was tied into the hatchlings arriving safely
into this world. Which explained his eyes being glued
to the monitor.

Aerdan sighed after a moment and stretched tired
muscles, the door to the hatchery opened and the
doctor looked up to see Rharn and T'nnent enter the
room. No one spoke for a moment and then.

"How are they doing?" It was the first male NOCTURIAN
who asked and Aerdan smiled at the man.

"Delta radiation has dropped and is dropping, so long
as there's no other dose they should be fine."

"We've managed to shield the room as well." Kiros
spoke up, "they should be perfectly safe once they've
hatched."

Rharn breathed out a small sigh of relief, "So it's
just a waiting…" her voice was cut off by a sub sonic
wailing that made Aerdan clutch at his head.

"I think we have our first arrival." T'nnent quipped
as one of the NOCTURIANS dedicated to the new arrivals
quickly went to fetch the baby. A moment later it was
brought swaddled and being fed to the doctor.

Aerdan produced a tricorder and sighed with relief.
"All trace of radiation illness is gone, the child is
healthy. Taking another look at his tricorder he half
smiled, “You may have to come up with some new nouns
and pronouns though, I wouldn’t necessarily call this
hatchling a she, but I can say the baby has veered
from being purely androgynous.”

=[/\]=

Scene: Clearing between the citadels.

The hatching was finally over, and they hadn’t lost a
single hatchling. Now the assembled Starfleet officers
were waiting for T’nnent. The male Nocturian was
leaving with them, it would probably be dangerous to
remain here for a start, and of course Rharn was going
back to the STONEHENGE so T’nnent was following.

When they were first joined though it was by someone
they didn’t expect, it was the Alcedo Elder.

Expecting a farewell Rharn stepped forwards only to
stop when it became obvious from the baggage being
brought behind the Eldar that this wasn’t a farewell.

“Elder?” Queried Peter as he joined his Captain.

“You have space for a passenger I assume?” Asked the
Elder.

“Of course Elder but...why?” Asked Rharn.

“The council of Elders have decided that.... we need
an Envoy to this Federation of yours.” Replied the
Elder calmly, watching Rharn for a reaction.

Peter inclined his head, “They couldn’t have found a
better person to represent them.”

The Elder looked at him before inclining heris head in
response and walking towards the other officers.

Peter watched herim while talking to Rharn, “Did they
really do what I think they did?” he asked.

Rharn nodded, “They have near enough exiled our Elder,
if they will accept herim back at some point i cannot,
but it is an affront to all Alcedo for certain.

Peter had no response but was saved from too long a
silence by the arrival of T’nnent.

“We are all here, shall I order beam up?”

“Please do Commander, let us leave.

NRPG: There you go, we are leaving NOCTURIA, T’nnent
and the Elder are going to be accompanying us away
from the planet.

Feel free to back post any details you wish or start
our R&R I am hoping to run R&R for a couple of weeks,
although if people are involved in stretching R&R
storylines I am perfectly willing to extend that.
By the way, the STONE will be spending her R&R at E4,
feel free to have her arrive.
