Location: USS STONEHENGE

Scene: Holodeck

There were days, not many of them, that made Phia actually miss Intel. Even
the shoot people for no reason, go and be violated and violate parts of
Intel.

Today wasn't that day but damn was it getting close.

Crossing her legs, the CNS tried another approach. So far it had been the
only one that worked in counseling sessions. Although it was a painful
approach; for her at any rate.

"There was a reason why I picked this program," Phia explained, changing
topics. Neither of her patients visibly responded but that didn't stop her
from continuing on. "The act of creation is one of the most visceral
reactions to dealing with death. The genesis of this reaction is rather
simple – it's the need to remind yourself that you're alive."

"Wouldn't it be obvious that you're alive?" Izzy asked.

Phia gave her friend a look. "Very few things are obvious after a death."
The blue woman's hazel eyes flickered over to the CMO. "And that visceral
reaction occurs not only after the physical death of someone but when there
are life changes – the emotional death of a relationship or event, if you
will."

Aerdan barely met the CNS' eyes. "I've heard this all before."

"It's not a new observation," Phia replied.

Izzy inhaled sharply and exhaled just as sharply. "This isn't what I want
to do."

"No, it's not," Phia agreed. "But as your Counselor I am going to do
everything I can to stop you from doing something destructive. That's the
other part of wanting to create – you also want to destroy. Usually yourself
– you want those extreme emotions. Because living in the mundane, without
what you had before, is too painful."

"It's a holodeck," Izzy replied. "How much creating and destructing can we
do and have it be even worth anything?"

Phia appeared to consider that while she ate. After a few bites she
replied, "You may have a point." Lifting her head up to the sky she called
out, "Computer, disengage safeties."

[[Safeties disengaged,]] the computer neutrally replied.

Aerdan wasn't sure he wanted to know where this was going. His antennae
furrowed in slightly as he called out. "Computer re-engage safeties."

[[Denied. User does not have the proper permissions to do that.]]

"Computer lock down holodeck," Phia called out. "Psychiatric counseling
session in place."

[[Authorization,]] the computer replied as Aerdan got up to leave.

"Phia – Delta – Nine – Gamma – Three," the CNS called out. As Aerdan
literally hit a tree that had sprouted up she called out. "Care to come
back, Doctor?"

Aerdan turned around and glared at the doctor. "Are you forcing me to stay
here? Against my will?"

Izzy gave her a friend a look. "Phia, you're mean."

Phia picked up a chicken wing and nibbled on it. "Yes it would appear that
I am – on both accounts."

Aerdan inhaled sharply as he got up and went back to the picnic. "Why do
this? Why do this to us?"

Phia blinked her hazel eyes and was quiet for a long time. "Because believe
it or not, I actually care what happens to the two of you." Shrugging her
shoulders she said, "And it's not my fault both of you are too stupid to
care what happens to yourselves."

NRPG: Ah the great joint counseling session continues. With hostages! This
is normal in counseling, right? :D I swear Phia really does care but ahem
she's not exactly gonna give a hug to anyone anytime soon...so a hostage
situation is just like showing she cares :P
