¡§Scattered¡¨ (contd-¡§If Tomorrow Never Comes¡¨)

Location: USS STONEHENGE
Scene: Holodeck
Stardate: [2.8]0212.2312

The finger traced the edge of the shape, sliding round
the smoothed corners in to each narrowing space. The
hand twisted and turned the object while the eyes
stared at it intently. Then it pushed.

Nothing happened, until Benham again twisted the block
and the bright yellow star popped in to the ball.

He was so proud and his broad smile and the
corresponding giggle declared that to his dad who was
sat close by playing peek-a-boo with Boone.

Taking a quick look at the smaller of the twins Peter
smiled, ¡§Well done Benham.¡¨

Boone opened his hands from in front of his face and
looked expectantly at his dad.

Unfortunately for Peter his attention momentarily on
Benham he didn¡¦t respond quick enough for Boone who
yelled ¡§Dada¡¨ and began to sniffle.

¡§Boone.¡¨ Sighed Peter but unsurprisingly the infant
didn¡¦t stop, until that was Peter began tickling him
and he instead began to laugh.

Benham quietly continued putting blocks in the ball
looking at his dad each time he succeeded.

Away from the trio sat on the blanket Matthew and
Jackie were playing with animals.

Most of the terran animals Jackie had been able to pet
and even feed, but the holographic animal keepers were
a little more careful with the sehlat considering the
tempers the animals often had.

Still the sehlat was fairly tame and the keeper nodded
that Jackie could pet the snout of the animal when it
was stuck inquisitively between the slats of the
fence.

The young girl grinned and looked up at her dad who
smiled back, before pulling her arm away as the sehlat
was startled by a bark from Chance.

¡§Chance, bad dog¡¨ Admonished Jackie even while she
ruffled the fur on his neck.

As the handler calmed the sehlat down they walked over
to rejoin Peter and the twins. Benham was yawning as
he finished pushing shapes in to the block and Boone
was also beginning to look a little groggy.

¡§I think we should go back to our quarters.¡¨ Smiled
Matthew.

Peter put a cheesy grin on his face and flickered his
eyebrows which got Matthew laughing, ¡§I think the
twins need a nap.¡¨

¡§Oh,¡¨ Replied Peter trying to look crestfallen, ¡§Ok
then.¡¨ He smiled lifted Boone in to his arms as he
stood. Benham was already softly snoring against
Matthew¡¦s shoulder.

¡§Can you look after chance Princess?¡¨ Asked Peter.

¡§Of course daddy.¡¨ Said Jackie as she grabbed the
dog¡¦s collar.

Chance turned and she lost her grip but he was,
thankfully, a generally well behaved dog and after he
gave her face a lick he padded off after Peter and
Matthew, a giggling Jackie running to catch up with
him and at least pretend she was in charge of the dog.

Scene: Aspinall quarters „³Exo¡¦s ready room

The twins were tucked away having a nap and Jackie was
laid out on the floor in her room surrounded by her
dolls as she played with her crayons.

Matthew was just pulling a tank top on as he left the
bedroom he shared with Peter. Peter, sat on the sofa,
watching his husbands defined torso as it vanished.

¡§Going to do some yoga?¡¨ He asked.

¡§If you don¡¦t mind? Replied Matthew knowing he liked
to monopolise the floor in the living room when he did
yoga.

¡§Not at all, I need to go grab some pads from my
ready room anyway, so i shall work up there for a
little while and then come and see about dinner.¡¨

Matthew smiled as he sat on the yoga mat and leaned up
to kiss Peter before he left.

¡§See you later handsome.¡¨ He grinned.

¡§Count on it stud.¡¨ Laughed Peter as he left his
quarters.

The advantages of the Legend class starship for the
senior staff were that the entire second deck, small
as it was, housed the senior officers and most of the
assistant department heads. That meant there were far
fewer people to corner you as you left your quarters.

Unfortunately for Peter despite the other advantage,
the bridge being only one deck higher, he was cornered
by a crewman with a report as soon as he entered the
turbolift.

¡§Sir, I have a report from one of the scientists in
the locker. ¡§

The locker was the term several of the scientists had
coined for the secured area of the STONEHENGE where
R&D projects took place, particularly secret R&D
projects usually.

¡§Thank you Spencer.¡¨ Replied Peter as he took the
offered PADD.
The contents of the PADD was actually pretty
interesting and given the current political situation
could come in very handy.

By the time he had finished scanning the contents
Peter was already crossing the bridge to enter the
corridor behind the command centre.

He waved the lieutenant standing from the command
chair back down as he once again the left the bridge
and only a few feet down the corridor entered his own
ready room.

The pile of PADDS on his desk that needed his
attention was actually very small, but it was only by
actually getting down to the work at times like this
that he kept it that way.

He added the PADD in his hand to those on the desk and
went to stare at the image on the wall for a moment
before sitting down.

Several people who had entered this office since Peter
had ¡¥decorated¡¦ commented that it didn¡¦t look much
like an exec¡¦s office, rather the office of an
engineer, most probably at a shipyards.

As Peter glanced around he reflected that was probably
pretty true but engineering was a passion and passions
never really leave you.

As he followed the lines of one of the designs on a
screen his desk beeped and the holographic display
appeared floating above the centre of the desk.

The words ¡¥incoming communication¡¦ appeared floating
inside the holographic border.

Peter tapped a control on the edge of the desk and
Maddie¡¦s face appeared.

¡§Mad¡¦s, we¡¦re on our way to you, to what do I owe
the pleasure?¡¨ Smiled Peter.

[[Oh just a heads up, your crew have some work to
do.]]

¡§Oh?¡¨ Peter was a little puzzled.

[[We have a delivery for you, Command has sent another
6 Arwing fighters and a team of 8 pilots.]]

Peter rubbed his forehead, ¡§A fighter squadron, great
I wonder what personality quirks they have, thanks
sis, I hope you and the kids are ok?¡¨

[[We¡¦re all fine, it¡¦s getting a little busier
around here, which the kids find an improvement,
there¡¦s only so much time with only their own company
they can take.]]

¡§I can imagine, nothing like having friends around.¡¨
Nodded Peter.

Maddie¡¦s face lit up, [[Which reminds me.... I have
someone here you should remember. ]]

¡§Oh?¡¨

[[Yeah someone to join your civilian science experts,
working on nanotech I believe.]]

The view moved out to show a familiar angular face
near Maddie, a face that still looked strange without
the implants.

¡§Castor !¡¨

The Borg nodded a greeting, [[Commander Aspinall.]]

Peter laughed, ¡§What did I say, it¡¦s Peter; I have
to go and get dinner ready for the kids soon but the
STONEHENGE should be at E4 soon, we have to get
together; our family is scattered across the galaxy
Mads, it will be nice to see you again.¡¨

Maddie smiled, [[Of course, a big family get
together.]]

¡§Yeah, I shall have to introduce you to my new
family; see you soon Maddie, and you Castor; good to
see you again.¡¨

[[And you Peter.]] They responded in unison before
closing the link.

NRPG:

Clearly this post happens prior to our arrival at E4,
I plan a continuation soon, although speaking to
Margie first may be needed.

Anyway for those now in the know Castor is a Borg that
no longer has implants and cannot get implants because
of a technique Peter and Aerdan came up with to free
some of the senior officers and a number of civilians
when a rogue Borg collective was formed from Ronnie¡¦s
re-activated nanites.

If you want a more expanded story I am sure I can give
it to you, or point you to the right posts in the
archive.

As for the Arwings, yes we now have a total of 10
fighters, this is because of the war with the
Dominion.

Eight of the fighters will have regular pilots; a
proper fighter squadron which we can come up with, so
any name idea for the quadroon and/or call signs let
me know. The other 2 fighters act as spares for the
squadron and as vessels for any qualified Senior staff
to accompany them on missions.

ALL the fighters will be berthed in Hanger bay 2, 4 on
flights racks mounted to the ceiling, 4 on the surface
and the remaining 2 under the deck in the storage
area.

This means all the other vessels will be housed in
Hanger bay 1 and we will lose some of what we had, I
shall present an updated list when I get around to it.

Oh and for those curious, the other item that R&D
wrote a report on.... is an experimental cloak.
Standard cloaks, for the Federation at least, mean you
cannot run with weapons powered as this energy bleeds
through the cloak, this new cloak means we can have
weapons powered and literally decloak, fire and then
recloak. But if we use this remember it is
EXPERIMENTAL so nothing is guaranteed :D
