"Security Prep"

(Cont'd from "Biscuits")

Location: USS STONEHENGE

Scene: Armoury

Stardate: 2.80226.1206

The armoury was silent, nothing moved except for the assistant security
chief, she sat silently in the middle of the floor, besides her lay a pile
of batteries, the power packs for the phaser and phaser rifles. She
carefully checked each one charging any that where slightly low and placing
the fully charged ones into the weapons and back on the racks.

"How's it going?"

Izshlana looked up at the other assistant and shrugged her uniform clad
shoulders. "Slowly."

"Which piles the unchecked one?"

Izzy pointed to the right pile and Ardy sat down opposite her finding
another charger and began checking. "So are we doing this for any reason
other than paranoia?" Ardy asked after a moment of silence passed between
them.

"you're not paranoid if they're really out to get you." She answered
quietly. "I just want to be prepared."

Xav'ion shrugged and then placed another fully charged phaser onto the
racks. "Well Mathew wants to speak to us, department briefing in 10
minutes."

Izzy nodded and looked at the mess she'd managed to create of the armoury.
"OK checked phasers on the right, charging ones on the back and unchecked on
the left." She decided standing up the two officers started replacing
phasers so people would be able to pick safe and checked weapons should they
be needed.

"Congratulations on the promotion." Izzy finally said softly. Glancing at
her friend, "It was about time."

Ardy smiled and shrugged, "And you." He congratulated but saw from her face
she wasn't impressed. "You do deserve it Izzy, what happened to Landwyn
wasn't your fault."

Finally the younger woman nodded, "let's get to that briefing then."

Scene: Security briefing room.

Izshlana and Xav'ion where two of the last people in the room, they took up
places against the back wall and watched the last few members of the
security staff take seats or stand against walls.

Mathew stood at the front looking at a PADD, when he glanced up a sudden
silence filled the room. Besides him a holographic image rotated. "Thank you
for coming." The security chiefs voice filled the room. "OK, mission
briefing, we're answering a distress call in the Salarian system." He
pointed vaguely to the image turning slowly besides him. "Now we have star
charts of the area and it looks like a pretty uninteresting part of space,
scientifically and tactically speaking."

"They have sensors in the system to let off an early warning alert should
any unidentified craft pass through, these sensors went off, but didn't
manage to get a clear reading on what then attacked the planet."

As he said the word planet the holographic image zoomed in on the second
planet from the sun and it's two orbiting moons. "Atliv II has a population
of around half a million, we helped them settle, and it was this settlement
that took damage. We don't have a full idea of damage, or casualties and we
won't find out more until we're in communication range."

Mathew took a deep breath. "So our aim will be twofold. Firstly we're going
to be supporting the other departments, helping find and rescue survivors
should the need arise. Secondly we will need to find out who attacked and
find a way to secure their position." The chief took a deep breath. "Roles
will be handed out when we arrive, for now prepare for a tough mission, if
you have any questions refer to your team leaders or the assistants. OK
that's about all, you're dismissed; except for the team leaders and
assistants."

As the security staff filed out Izzy and Ardy stepped forwards taking seats
along side the four team leaders. Mathew nodded and came and sat down with
them. "That was a bit of a blind briefing." Ardy said when everyone was
settled.

"I know but it's all the info I have." The chief answered, "Except we also
know they took heavy damage and a lot of casualties. I think we should offer
anyone with field medical training to the medical department should they
need the extra hands." He paused, "we should prepare for anything."

"You're worried about something." Izzy finally spoke up.

"Yes, I'm worried that someone took a pot shot at a federation colony simply
to get us to respond, I don't think we can risk the assumption that they'll
have just moved on." He looked at his two assistants. "So I'm going to take
the tactical console once we're in the system, I'll feel better knowing I
can see the scans coming in on the bridge. I'll go down to the planet when
we get there, but you two prepare the initial away team."

He glanced at his team leaders, "make sure your guys are ready for
anything."

The six security officers all nodded and answered with a firm. "Aye sir."
