"Spider Webs"
(Continued from Peter's: "Knock Knock")
########################
Location: USS STONEHENGE
Stardate: 2.80510.2200
Scene: Bridge
Rharn sat in her chair. She was starting to feel like
a spider in the middle of a web. The crew bustled
about but she just sat still and quiet, her black eyes
fixed firmly on the image that filled the front of the
Bridge.
She resisted the urge to tap her claws on the arm of
her chair, and also taking deep breaths resisted the
urge to fidget. Rharn knew that the crew were busy
and would inform her of any changes. She also knew
that this was one of the downsides of Commanding your
own Ship, but still if chaffed knowing that all she
could do was sit and wait.

Location: CENTURY CLASS VESSEL
Scene: Arboretum
A make shift camp had appeared in the wildly overgrown
arboretum. Most of the *buildings* if they could be
called that were strung like large, ungainly spider
webs, with the larder still occupied. Dark coloured
creatures clambered amongst the trees, and several sat
around a rudimentary camp fire.
Clothing had been discarded as most of them were
completely covered by thick matted fur. A small
figure huddled against the base of a tree. It's dark
green scales glinting in the fire-light.
One of the much larger animals threw a number of
scraps at the smaller creature, which leapt upon them
and hastily pushed them into it's mouth. Sharp teeth
glinted in the flickering light. It grunted it's
thanks and made short work of it's dinner.
An even larger creature appeared through the doors and
moved swiftly towards the largest of the crude huts.
Ignoring the other beasts it stepped around the scaled
alien and the tree that it tried to hide against and
stepped into the hut.
Suddenly yowls and screeches filled the air from
inside the hut. The small green creature pulled
ineffectually at it's leash and deciding that it would
not escape this night, scrambled as far up its tree as
it could get.
Once satisfied that it was out of harms reach, it
scampered along the branch and settled itself amongst
the green leaves. Something deep inside its tiny
brain made it shiver with a mixture of fear and
excitement.

Scene: Near the bottom of the ship
Here the creatures were much taller and thinner.
Most had long skeletal fingers which were a very pale
grey colour. Long black robes hid their faces from
each other but each had scrawled emblems that ran down
their sleeves.
One of the taller spectres drifted across to the three
massive containers that stood in the centre of the
cavernous room. High above its head twisted and torn
struts from the next two decks could be see like
clutching metallic fingers.
Strewn between the struts were various cables and
wires. Along these cobweb structures, could be seen
myriad multi-limbed creatures.
Down here in the bowels of the stricken vessel, the
grunts of the upper creatures had given way to shrill
chirps and cheaps.
The tall dark robed specture stepped towards the three
containers. Its grey fingers gently stroking the
black containers. Suddenly a light flickered beneath
the caressing fingers and it was apparent that the
container itself was not black, but rather clear and
it was its contents that were blacker than night.
Clicks and whistles passed between the newcomer and
another of the dark spectres. The *conversation*
lasted a few minutes and the newest creature tapped a
complex pattern against the side of the container.
A very hazy image appeared on the liquids surface.
The two peered short sightedly at the image. They
could just discern new strange walking things. For a
second hope blazed in their chests to be quickly
dispelled by a soft sickly green light that covered
their forms.
The multi-limbed creatures dropped down from their
webs and span slowly above the strange seen. Heads
tilted to one side slightly.
The two spectres stepped away from the containers and
glanced up. Within seconds their littler companions
had disappeared deep into the ship.

Scene: Swimming Pool
The surface of pool was dark and slime covered. Still
as liquid oil nothing moved in the room. Dim light
was reflected off of its surface from the various
doors and windows. The once smooth flooring was
cracked with neglect. Cobwebbed crazy paving but here
there was no-one to walk or admire it.
Suddenly bubbles broke the surface of the still inky
black pool. Slowly a dull green head, too, broke the
surface. Inky white eyes glittered in the dark room.
The creature glided silently across the pool and to
the water's edge. Long webbed fingers grasped the
pools side and the creature heaved itself from the
water.
The dark water slewed off of its scales, and the
creature sniffed the air. Slowly it was joined by
three others. Each of them carefully taking stock of
the area. Tusk like growths curved from their bottom
jaws up towards their cheeks. Turning as one they
lopped around the edge of the pool.
They paused suddenly as if sensing that something had
changed. Their white eyes making as much use as
possible from the meagre light. Two turned and dived
gracefully back into the water and disappeared from
sight. The remaining two moved cautiously towards the
door, lifting their hands to cover their light
sensitive eyes. Pausing briefly they sniffed the air
once more and then as one stepped through the door and
into the corridor.

NRPG: Short I know but I'm tired. So we now know that
there are four different types of creatures, but are
they all a threat to us? Where did they come from?
and what is in those three containers?
Only you hold the answers.
Any questions, etc, send them my way.
