“No.” (contd-"The Few Who Were The Many....")
Location: USS STONEHENGE
Scene: Bridge
Stardate: [2.8]0529.2213
Matthew finished climbing out of his suit and headed
for the bridge, he had felt the ship lurch under some
sort of attack and practically threw the last pieces
of the suit off but his steady pace down the corridor
to the turbolift was not as frantic as it might have
been.
As soon as he reached the bridge and saw the relative
calm there he relaxed further, until he saw the
concern Rharn was showing to his husband.
The officer at the security station knew Matthew well
enough at least that he never made to leave his
station and Matthew didn’t disappoint, he was
immediately at Peter’s side.
Peter looked in to his husbands eyes and what Matthew
saw then made him shudder.
“They were many.” Whispered Peter, his voice still
choked with a foreign grief.
In a moment of respite Peter’s eyes seemed to sparkle
and he forced a weak smile. He knew what his husband
was thinking.
“No, they are nothing like the Borg, it is not like
then, it is..” The respite was gone and Peter was
enveloped in another wave of grief and loss.
Matthew looked at Rharn questioningly.
“Several creatures have attached themselves to us,
they appear to have some sort of telepathic or
empathic powers, Peter here seems to be linked to
them, and several stronger telepaths on the ship have
fallen unconscious. “
Peter squoze Matthew’s hand for an instant and then
refused to release it. They still however got no real
sense from him.
“Is the other ship secure?” Asked Rharn.
“She’s following our course to the outer system, all
onboard controls are now slaved to our systems,
whatever they are over on that ship they seem to pose
no threat. By the way, when we got in to their
systems for full control we found her registry, she’s
the ETERNITY, she disappeared 6 months ago.”
Rharn nodded, and then paused, “Wait, 6 months? How
did she get so dilapidated in only 6 months?”
“I don’t know,” Admitted Matthew, “But I think we have
other things to worry about.” He carried on gently
prising Peter’s fingers from around his hand.
“Agreed, for now the ETERNITY is secure and these
things attached to our hull are an immediate concern,
do we have any clue what drew them to us?”
Urika called out from her console, “There was no
change in our status that would indicate what drew
them to us, I don’t understand it.”
“What if it wasn’t a change in our status but that of
the ETERNITY?” Asked Ronnie.
The pair of them looked at one another and then looked
down to their consoles as they tried to figure out why
they were now the target of whatever these things
where.
Matthew was making the bridge look thoroughly
unprofessional, sat on the floor in front of his
husband as he was.
When Aerdan entered the bridge however he didn’t even
seem to notice as he moved over towards Peter with a
hypo.
“This should help Commander.” He said moving to inject
whatever it was in to Peter’s arm, Peter however moved
faster and stopped him, shaking his head and wincing
at the same time.
“What is it Dr?” Asked Matthew.
“Its a telepathic blocker, it should stop him
receiving this telepathic information and allow him to
function normally, I wouldn’t hold out hope with it
being helpful for the full telepaths, they grew up
with their telepathy, it’s such a part of their life
that they would take time to adapt, but Peter is a
recently developed telepath, he can function fine
without it for a while.”
Matthew looked at Peter who was staring at him and
once again muttering about the many.
“No Dr.”
“No?”
“Peter knows what this will do, and he doesn’t want
it, “ Peter was squeezing his hand again, “He may be
our only chance to communicate with them, he may be
our best bet to stop this.”
Aerdan looked like he was about to protest, but Peter
grabbed his wrist; “They were many....”
