"Arguments and worries"

(Cont'd from "Endings and Beginnings")

Location: USS STONEHENGE

Scene: Izzy's quarters

Time Index: 2.80806.1028

Izzy wandered back into her quarters and looked around, Xordin followed a
step behind having argued with her back in sickbay that she needed someone
to see her safely home, the assistant security chief had been too tired to
argue and gave in without too much of a fight.

"OK I'll feed the cat for you, do you need anything else?" he asked as he
headed to the replicator for the cat food. Izzy slipped into one of the
seats suspended from the ceiling, she rested her head against the see
through side of the egg shaped chair and shook her head.

"No," she said softly

"You're sure?"

Izzy closed her eyes against the bright light of her quarters and nodded.
"And I can look after myself, clean bill of health and all."

Xordin stood, cat bowl in hand and watched Izzy sadly. "You keep doing
this." He muttered and finally put the cat bowl down before scarlet
scratched the legs out of his trousers

"No I don't." She answered

He gave a slight smile. "You don't even know what I was going to say you
keep doing." He pointed out.

"I can guess."

"Pushing me away." He added when he realised she wasn't going to ask.

"I would have guessed right." Izshlana answered she looked up and sat up
straight, folding her arms across her chest she drew her knees up to her
body resting her feet on the edge of the suspended chair.

"Izshlana." She held her hand up and stopped him in his tracks.

"We were both pretty clear about what you thought of me on Atleavkith.
Apparently it was my fault that we couldn't rescue your people from the
slavers, you recall that?"

Xordin looked down at his feet and muttered something it almost brought a
smile to Izzy's face but not quite. "Also I'm pretty sure it was my fault
that Starfleet couldn't do anything to help your people and you once again
had to be relocated, and that's not even mentioning the amount of casualties
your people took in the battle, also my fault." She stopped for a breath and
then glared. "Don't touch that."

Xordin placed the cylindrical device back on its pedestal. "You're not the
easiest person to work with." He pointed out, drawing himself up to face
her. "You stomp over other peoples beliefs because you believe your way is
right, you argue against a monarchy yet you're from a clan based system;
because that's *sooo* much better." Xordin drawled.

"I do not stomp over other peoples beliefs." Izzy snapped back.

"Just mine then."

"Why the hell should what time of the year you were born have any relevance
to what you're going to be good at for the rest of your life?"

"And how did your people decide to send you to military school? Ooh that's
right because you didn't have any other options, definitely the product of a
well rounded and sophisticated race."

"You sound like a girl." Izzy retorted. "Mr I'm so much better than everyone
else because of the family I was born into it gives me god given leadership
skills and makes me an all round good guy. And look just to prove it I
adopted this little whelp."

"Don't bring my daughter into this."

"Why not, you do. Roll her out for all the publicity shots, show the world
how inclusive you are then make everyone else bow and scrape to you because
you're the bestest."

"If you think so little of me why do you hang around?"

"I don't, you follow me around like a lost little puppy, and do you think
you'll get salvation by looking after the poor little alien all alone in the
world." Izzy asked she'd stood up at some point and was kneading a cushion
between her hands.

"I want to help you."

"With what?" Izzy snapped, she threw the cushion with unnerving accuracy
hitting Xordin in the chest. "Exactly what do you think I need your help
with?"

He leaned down and picked the cushion up from the ground holding it between
his hands, Scarlet looked up curiously and he rose to his feet placing the
cushion on a chair. "Nothing, I never thought you needed it." He turned
around and headed to the door.

"Don't just walk away." She snapped.

Xordin stopped in the doorway and turned around. "I thought that was
precisely what you wanted." He watched her for a moment as she stood looking
unsure and then turned and headed out the doors as they slid open.

Location: E4

Scene: Maddies holiday cabin somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Kat sat on the edge of a bed and carefully dabbed at the little girl's
forehead with a cool damp cloth, wiping the sweat drops away she held the
girls hand in one of her own and did her best to whisper soothing words to
her.

"You'll be alright Safira, I promise." Kat said softly and closed her eyes
at how hollow the word sounded.

"Kat." The door opened from the back of the cabin into the bedroom and
Mad'hron stepped through. "I came as quickly as I could." She handed her
petite friend a medical kit. "The HENGE just called in they'll be home
soon."

Kat nodded. "Will we still be safe then?"

"As long as they don't look too hard." Maddie admitted, "I'm masking
lifeforms from the cabin and the children and Ty are making good diversions
at the moment."

Maddie knelt down next to the bed as Kat unpacked the medical kit. "Did Jeff
teach you how to use any of those?"

Kat smiled a little. "Some, I can make her more comfortable." Her smile
faded and Maddie saw the worry lines creep into her younger friends face.

"We should take her to the doctors Kat."

"I know." Kat whispered quietly. "Except your CMO was the one who wanted to
experiment on Thomas."

Mad'hron nodded, her hand gripped Kat's arm gently. "If we don't take her
she could die."

Kat shook her head. "If I don't take her," the younger woman corrected
firmly, "Starfleet still have no way of knowing you know I'm here." Kat
answered, "And that's how it's going to stay. If I make her comfortable
enough I can maybe persuade her to change, in her fludic state she should be
able to heal better, although it would be better if I could get her to the
great link."

Mad'hron pursed her lips and sighed, "You could try, your shuttle is still
hidden, and no one would even know you were here."

Kat nodded and administered the pain relief and stimulants she had been
placing into a hypospray. "Last option." She said softly.

Safira the small foundling murmured something as the metal was placed next
to her neck and the drugs began to take affect. Kat closed her eyes as the
little girls face relaxed. "What am I doing Mads?"

"What you think is right." Mad'hron answered. "Go and get some sleep, I'll
watch over her, Ty and the children will pick me up before they go back to
the base."

"What are they doing?"

Maddie smiled a little. "Playing on the beach, now go, while you can still
get a few hours sleep."

Kat nodded and wearily got up from the bed. "Wake me before you go," she
ordered as she made her way to her own cot in the back of Maddies house.

Location: USS STONEHENGE

Scene: Crew lounge

Xordin turned the small glass of scotch around in his hand; he was leaning
against the bar in the ships lounge, watching the liquid intently.

"Women." Arjan declared as he sat down and ordered a drink from the
bartender. "they're not worth the trouble sometimes."

"How do you figure it's women?" Xordin asked swallowing the whiskey in one
go, wincing slightly at the bite and ordering another glass.

"It's that look. Only a woman could have done that." Arjan smiled at the
bartender and then glanced sideways at Xordin.

"Are you going to offer me advice? Or tell me how there are plenty more fish
in the sea?"

"Neither, I hear you've asked to be of use to sickbay while you're on the
ship, I would have thought security would have been more your thing." Arjan
carried on, he ignored the shadow that crossed Prince Cadrin's eyes.

"I like to learn new things."

"Excellent." Arjan grinned and raised a glass to the newest member of
sickbay. "Report tomorrow for basic medical training, first aid, triage
stuff like that, while the crew are on shore leave we're going to be busy
getting you up to scratch."

Xordin sighed but a small smile flittered to his face. "I can't wait."

"Excellent." The blue man grinned, "So going back to the topic of the day,
what is it with you and Izzy."

Xordin glared at him and shook his head. "I'm going to need more alcohol for
that topic."

NRPG: There seems to be something wrong with the formating on my posts so if
this comes through weird shout at me and i'll look into it.

Hope people like this. Would like to do more with Kat over R&R and we might

goes.
