"Blue and Scarlet"

(Cont'd from "A First Date")

Location: USS STONEHENGE
Scene: Izshlana's Quarters
Stardate: 2.70825.1325

Xordin finished the cage and rocked back on his heals. His daughter watched
him intently cuddling the little blue furball in her hands that she'd
managed to con him into. He looked around Izzy's quarters and shook his
head. "This cage takes up most of your work out space." He pointed out and
then fixed his attention on where Izshlana was sat on the floor introducing
her little blue furball to Scarlet.

"Have you named him yet?" Beltha asked a wide grin on her face.

"Have you named yours?" Izzy asked in return an anxious look on her face as
Scarlet had taken one sniff at the blouskey (So named because it looked like
a cross between a mouse and a monkey and was bright blue.) and then shown
her disinterest by curling up in a ball with her tail over her nose and eyes
and pointedly ignoring them all.

"I'm going to call mine Lizzie because it looks like a little Izzy." Beltha
answered Xordin tried to hide a snort of laughter and ended up coughing.

"I don't see the resemblance." Izshlana answered her eyes taking in the blue
furred one in her hands. "It's not like I'm even blue all that often." She
pointed out. "and my tail isn't furry."

"It has cute ears, and big eyes and it's bouncy and has a long tail." Beltha
explained cheerfully. "You should call yours Blue."

Izzy considered that and looked at her two pets. "What do you guys think?
Blue?"

The newly named blouskey answered her with a nibble of her thumb, Scarlet
gave half a little purr stood up stretched her back, put her claws out and
then turned around and lay back down again.

"Your cage is done." Xordin informed her, he stood up and manhandled the
cage, in height it nearly reached the ceiling, width ways it was around 6ft
long and its depth was around 2 foot. With a grunt of effort he put it up
against a wall and began securing it to the bulkhead.

"Thank you for making it." Izzy said seriously. "He didn't have one I liked
in the shop."

Xordin shrugged his shoulders. "I'm a metalworker; it's nice to do something
useful for a change that's actually to do with my proffesion." He looked at
the cage and then at the small blouskey. "Well I think it's big enough for
him. In fact I think he's likely to disappear in here"

Izshlana grinned. "We need some places for him to climb, and a house for him
to sleep in and some food and water."

Xordin looked from Izzy to his daughter and shook his head, "You're as bad
as each other. I'm surprised you even wanted a cage, Beltha is insisting
that hers sleeps in her room."

"Lizzie will like it in there." Beltha answered with a big smile and cuddled
the blouskey to her.

Xordin shook his head and then pointed at Izzy. "Anyway I've done my job,
decorating is your problem now."

Izshlana pulled tongues at Xordin eliciting a giggle of amusement from
Beltha. "I'm still worried about Scarlet though." She said softly. "Maybe I
should take her to sickbay."

Scene: Sickbay

TI: Some time later

Izshlana watched readouts with wide eyes as Aerdan muttered something about
him being a neurosurgeon not a vet. "But you have to look after all these
strange aliens, how different can a cat be?"

The doctor didn't answer he simply looked up from his diagnostic device, his
antenna curled down into his white hair and glared.

Izzy bit her lower lip and then looked around the empty sickbay, a couple of
nurses shuffled around keeping their voices to a low mutter as they
discussed their plans for shore leave once they were done here. The Vulcan
aCMO was leaning over the only other patient in the sickbay who was having a
broken arm mended after some kind of accident on the moon.

.

Izshlana finally looked at Aerdan, "It's like the academy library in here,
you should play some music." As if to emphasise her point Izzy did a little
dance on the spot watching Aerdans antenna intently.

"I like the quiet." The doctor answered tersely "I can concentrate better."

Izzy scowled but got the hint and went back to being quiet although she did
tap her hands aganst her thighs in time to a tune only she could hear.

Aerdan finally put the tricorder down and patted the small feline on the
head.

"Although my equipment is hardly calibrated for use on felines I think it's
safe to say that Scarlet is pregnant, you really should have had her
neutered."

Izzy scowled and looked at the grey cat, "How's that possible?"

"Well you see.." Aerdan began a small.

Izzy waved her hands… "Nooo. I had this talk with Daisy, I know the
biological reasoning, I just meant who's the father."

"You're not the only member of this crew to keep pets Izshlana." Aerdan
answered her in that low soft lisping tone.

"Yeah but I didn't even know she could get out." Izzy poked her bottom lip
out in a small pout. "Other than that is she ok?"

"Yes, the kittens should arrive in a few weeks; I believe she can look after
herself."

"But if she needs help I can call you, right?" Izzy looked up at Aerdan with
big round eyes. "Right?"

He sighed and rolled his eyes. "If she appears to be in distress then call
me, yes." He answered and picked the cat up; he stroked her behind the ears
and then handed her over. "For now keep her comfortable. She'll eat what she
wants when she wants."

Izzy nodded and took the cat off him and held it to her chest tickling her
under the chin. "Thank you Dr Jos." Izzy smiled up at him. "I'll take her
home and make her comfortable." She started to walk away and then stopped
and turned around, "Will you be able to do DNA tests on the kittens so I can
find the daddy?"

Aerdan sighed, his antenna dipped into his hair. "Go away Izzy."

"But…"

"You're a security officer, I'm sure you can find the father if you really
want to." He pointed out and then made a shooing gesture with his hands.

"But…"

"Izzy." A warning tone crept into his voice. "I'll help you make sure she
and the kittens are OK but I'm not wasting sickbay resources on a wild goose
chase."

Izshlana poked her bottom lip again pouting up at the taller doctor who
deliberately turned away from her.

"Technically it'd be a cat chase." Izzy retorted to the doctor's back, "And
it's someone's pet, so it'd be a tame cat chase."

"I'm not listening anymore Izshlana."

"Meanie pants." She answered and turned on her heel.

Aerdan allowed himself a small smile when he heard the doors swishing closed
behind her back as she left and then got on with the tasks he'd been doing
before he'd been called on to brush up on his vet techniques.
